Twisha Sharma's sister-in-law alleges Giribala Singh's doctor sister tried to manipulate the initial autopsy results and mislead the family. The second postmortem shows signs of abuse before death.
The horrifying dowry-related death case of Twisha Sharma has left the entire nation shaken to the core, especially as the victim died in a house full of lawyers, including a retired judge, and qualified doctors. Amid growing awareness around women's rights and strict laws against dowry, the case has reignited uncomfortable questions about how deeply entrenched such practices remain.
On Thursday, the CBI arrested Twisha's mother-in-law, retired district judge Giribala Singh, after the MP High Court quashed her anticipatory bail request. And now, the late model's sister-in-law, Dr. Rashi Abrol, claims that Giribala's doctor sister had tried to manipulate the truth behind Twisha's demise.
In an online interview with journalist Barkha Dutt, Dr. Rashi Abrol and her husband, Major Harshit Sharma (Twisha's brother), made startling allegations against retired judge Giribala Singh and her family. Rashi was not mincing words when she said Giribala’s behavior and beliefs were deeply disturbing, especially given her educational background and time in the judiciary.
"It sickens me to see a woman with qualifications like hers being Mrs. Giribala," Rashi said during the interview. She also claimed she had the "unfortunate" experience of listening to Giribala Singh's sister defend the family's actions, calling those conversations equally disturbing.
During their conversation with Barkha Dutt, both Major Harshit Sharma and Dr. Rashi Abrol made serious allegations against Giribala Singh and her sister, Dr. Rajbala Singh Bhadoriya. The family alleges that Dr. Rajbala was not only present inside the post-mortem room during Twisha's first autopsy, but she also tried to "mislead" the family when asked about information.
When asked about Dr. Rajbala's alleged involvement in trying to tamper with the initial autopsy findings, Harshit revealed that both of Giribala's sisters were "very much present... from the beginning," and each tried to defend their sister and manipulate Twisha's family. Speaking about the other sister, he also made similar allegations. Harshit can be heard saying:
"[Giribala Singh] has two sisters... The first one could be heard... supporting Giribala and trying to justify whatever wild statements she was making... The other sister is a doctor. She was very much there from the beginning... she was very much present at the site and was in a position to handle things, use her position, and use the fact that she is a doctor to their advantage."
Rashi further claimed that, as a doctor herself, she had attempted to speak directly with the physician treating Twisha at the hospital after being informed about the situation. When she allegedly contacted Giribala Singh and requested to be connected with the attending doctor, who was actually treating Twisha in the casualty ward, her request allegedly went unanswered. She remarked:
"I said that I needed to speak to the doctor who was actually treating the patient in the casualty ward, but there was no response. Instead, the phone was given to one of Mrs. Giribala's sisters, who is a doctor. She then tried to mislead me and my entire family regarding the situation concerning Mrs. Twisha Sharma."
During Giribala Singh's recent court hearing, the Madhya Pradesh government told the High Court that Twisha Sharma's postmortem report revealed seven "ante-mortem injuries", including ligature marks consistent with hanging, four injuries on her left arm, one injury on her ring finger, and one on her head. The court also observed that the injuries may have resulted from a "scruffle or struggle" before death, and could not have occurred while the body was being brought down. The CBI reportedly confirmed with the court that Giribala Singh's sister and another private doctor were allegedly present inside the postmortem room during the first autopsy conducted at AIIMS Bhopal.
The CBI now reportedly seeks a 7-day police custody of Giribala Singh and Twisha Sharma's lawyer husband, Samarth Singh.
