However, it was the captain's bravery that saved 180 lives, as he was severely injured by his co-pilot.
Smit Machchhar, who showed bravery, is currently in Saudi Arabia, receiving treatment. Amid this, people have been digging for more information about the captain, who has now been lauded for his bravery. Recently, an old interview of his has been making rounds on social media, where he talked about his mom's fear about him joining aviation.
Smit Machchhar has been titled 'HERO' by major world leaders and officials for his courage that saved many lives recently. However, the profession, which he pursued so dedicatedly, was not something he had in mind from the beginning. That means he never actually decided to join aviation or become a pilot. A video of him recently made the rounds on social media. The clip was from Smit's interview with Zalak Mehta last year, where he said that, initially, he had planned to join his family's textile business.
Speaking more about the same, Smit revealed that after completing school, he studied and later pursued management to help his family. However, he came across aviation when he was 19 years old. According to Smit, he joined a seminar about the same profession and instantly decided to pursue a career in the same field. While Smith decided to become a pilot, his mom was not on board initially, being scared.
Smit Machchhar said, "My mom was scared." He further explained that the reason his mother was scared was that it was nearly 15-17 years ago when he decided to pursue aviation, and back then, this profession was totally different. Apart from that, the flying part was something that scared Smit's mom. However, his dad was very comfortable with him choosing this profession. Smith could be quoted as saying:
"My mom was scared. Because aviation today and aviation 15–17 years ago was completely different. You did not hear of a lot of people becoming pilots. So that was one thing that scared mom. The second, of course, was flying."
People have questioned Smit Machchhar's family since reports of his courageous move to save 180 lives emerged. To mention, Smit is married. However, no details about his wife are known. Her identity and details of her marriage to Smit are unknown, except that she has been in constant contact with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who lauded the brave captain for his actions.
Speaking of what happened on Flydubai FZ1073, during the mid-air hijacking attempt, the pilot stabbed Smit; however, the latter managed to open the cockpit door, despite being severely injured. Passengers, off-duty pilots, and the cabin crew forced their way into the cockpit and subdued the co-pilot, who tried to crash the plane, and stabilized the Boeing 737. Off-duty pilots took control and diverted the plane to Tabuk, Saudi Arabia.
