Recently, actress, Neelam Kothari opened up about her rumoured affair with Govinda, amid his divorce buzz with wife, Sunita Ahuja.
Govinda and his wife, Ssunita Ahuja have been grabbing attention since a while now. For the unversed, months ago, multiple reports claimed that the couple are heading for a divorce after years of togetherness. Later, a few reports claimed that Govinda had an affair with multiple actresses, including Neelam Kothari. Now, the actress has opened up about her rumoured affair with the Happy Ending actor.
Recently, actress, Neelam Kothari had a candid conversation with Usha Kakade Production in a podcast, during which she revealed the reality behind her rumoured affair with Govinda. When asked about the affair, the much-loved actress revealed that all the rumours are false as she never had an affair with the superstar. Neelam called Govinda an extremely good person; however, made it clear that she was not in a relationship with the actor. Neelam Kothari was quoted as saying:
"O teri, who said this? Govinda ji bahut hi acchhe insaan hain, magar yeh jo sawaal hai, yeh sach nahi hai. He is a wonderful human being, and we have done several hit films. But this is not true. Sorry, sorry, but this isn’t true at all. There’s nothing between us."
Neelam Kothari further spoke about the power of media during the ‘90s. She revealed that link-ups were part of a game at that time as no one would clarify them. Neelam also explained that in the ‘90s, if two actors had done more than two or three films, they were assumed to be in a relationship. In her words:
"I think link-ups were part of the whole game. There was no one to clarify. They just printed whatever they felt like, and to be honest, I feel like in those days we were scared of the press. Because it was the power of the pen, and it was just part of it. If you did more than 2–3 films, it was just understood that… (you two must be together)."
During an earlier interview with Stardust, Govinda had opened up about his admiration towards Neelam Kothari. He had shared that he used to like Neelam and enjoyed his time with her. He further stated that he had called off his engagement with Ssunita to marry Neelam; however, that didn’t happen. Govinda had explained:
"We had so many films together. We met so often, and the more I got to know her, the more I liked her. She was the kind of woman any man would have lost his heart to. I lost mine. I asked Ssunita to leave me. I broke off my engagement with her. And had Ssunita not called me after five days and coaxed me into it again, I would probably have married Neelam. I wanted to marry her. And I don’t think there’s anything wrong with that."
Neelam Kothari is a Bollywood actress. She was one of the most popular actresses of Hindi cinema during the late 1980s and 1990s. She was admired for her natural beauty. Reportedly, she was born in 1969. Over her long career, she appeared in films like Parampara, Khudgarz, Aag Hi Aag, Ilzaam, Love 86 and more. In her personal life, she was married to Rishi Sethia. However they parted ways after a few years. Later, she tied the knot with Samir Soni.
