For those unaware, he had played for seven years before he announced his decision. While he revealed the news on his social media, it is worth mentioning that his wife also shared the news of the player’s NFL retirement on her Instagram account. According to reports, Trent Taylor's wife, Sarah Taylor is a sports psychologist based in California. She initially wanted to pursue a career as a sports reporter but had to abandon the plan when she suffered an attempted abduction with the alleged purpose of human trafficking.
At the time, Sarah had just arrived in San Diego to begin her career. While she was out on a leisurely run in what she considered to be a safe neighbourhood to check out her surroundings, a man attempted to abduct her. Recalling the experience in an interview, Sarah said:
“As I was running, I noticed that there was a man who had the back door of the passenger side of his vehicle open, and he was bent down, and he had something in his hand. Before I knew it, he had turned around and grabbed me. I was so shocked. I almost thought it was a joke, like, ‘Why are you touching me?’ But then it got real.”
According to Sarah, the man assaulted her before he tried to shove her into his vehicle. She claimed that she kicked and punched and writhed until she could escape from his grasp. When she ran into the middle of the road, she flagged down a car driven by another young woman who safely drove her home.
Interestingly, as fate would have it, the woman who saved her was also named Sarah. She said, “In that moment, I really felt like she was my angel.” Since the terrifying incident, Sarah and her husband, Trent Taylor began working together to find causes to support and ways in which they can help to raise awareness about human trafficking. One of the organisations that the couple are known to support is the Tim Tebow Foundation. In 2020, Taylor was seen sporting cleats that featured the foundation for the NFL’s “My Cause My Cleats” week.
Talking about Trent Taylor's NFL retirement, Sarah shared a picture on Instagram featuring the couple alongside the former's teammate George Kittle and his wife, Claire. She captioned the picture, “Ended the journey w/ the same ones we started with.” Trent himself also reshared a couple of pictures from what appeared to be his retirement party on his IG Stories.
Reacting to the news of Trent’s retirement, fans took to social media to share their tributes. One user wrote, “TNT it was awesome watching you boss, you stay safe out there and if I see you in AZ, dinner on me.” Another wrote, “Jimmy’s favourite target. I remember us drafting him thinking we got Wes because we already had Wes coaching him. He was probably the best player on offence his rookie year for a stretch. Congrats man.” A third user penned, “Thank you TT! Great memories!”
