Hayden Panettiere Spoke About Hope To Live 'A Lot More' In Last Interview Months Before Her Death

Hayden Panettiere's sudden passing at the age of 36 left everyone shocked. The cause of her death is being investigated, but reports were rife that she suffered an overdose, which was followed by a cardiac arrest. Despite being a popular star, Hayden’s life was marred by personal challenges. From forcefully entering into the entertainment world to substance addiction and abusive relationships, Hayden’s life was never a bed of roses.

Hayden Panettiere spoke about her hope to ‘live a lot more’ during her final days

Months before her passing, Hayden Panettiere appeared on Jay Shetty’s podcast to promote her memoir, This Is Me: A Reckoning. In the podcast, the actress spoke about her personal struggles. Hayden turned emotional, recalling her dark past, and revealed that she was all set to move forward with her life after years of personal struggles. In the same podcast, the Nashville star revealed her wish to live a lot more and said:

“I finally feel like I have shaken off all of this darkness and this negativity. I’ve closed one door and another door is opened … I can feel all the exciting possibilities. I feel like I have a lot more life to live.”

Hayden Panettiere’s doctor gave her an alarming warning regarding her health

Hayden suffered from severe postpartum depression and addiction. In her memoir, Hayden mentioned that alcohol became an escape from the pain she experienced in nearly every aspect of her life. Alcohol numbed her emotions and the painful thoughts she was suffering from. In her memoir, Hayden recalled her doctor’s alarming advice for her as she penned:

“A doctor told me that if I didn't stop drinking, I'd be dead within five years.”

In an interview with ABC News at the time of her book release, Hayden revealed that her first encounter with drugs was during the time when she was a teen. She recalled being handed what she called "happy pills" at a red-carpet event when she was 16 years old by someone she trusted the most. She never realized that the ‘happy pills’ would lead to substance abuse.

Recalling her condition when she decided to enter a rehabilitation center for eight months in 2020, Hayden said:

“When I got to the point of looking in the mirror and seeing my eyes had turned yellow, and that I didn't recognize my body anymore ... I went into that doctor's office and got a blood test, and he told me 'If you don't stop, you're going to be looking at a liver transplant.”

Panettiere suffered from severe postpartum depression after giving birth to her daughter, Kaya, in 2014, and made the difficult decision for the child to primarily live with her father, former heavyweight boxing champ Wladimir Klitschko.

Days before her 37th birthday, the Nashville-fame actress bid adieu to the world. Hayden Panettiere's rep has also confirmed her passing in a statement with ABC News. The statement called Hayden a force of nature who "brought immeasurable" love and joy to everyone. 

The Greenville County Coroner’s Office received a call on August 16, 2026 regarding a reported cardiac arrest. When the Emergency Medical Services arrived on the scene, they located a female in cardiac arrest, who was later identified as Hayden Panettiere. Soon, resuscitation efforts were made, but they were unsuccessful.
