Josh Wasserman

Sarah J Maas and Josh Wasserman met while they were students at Hamilton College in Clinton, New York. They started dating during that time. Both were focused on school, but Sarah was already writing. She had begun Throne of Glass as a teen and was posting early chapters online.

The couple married in 2010, not long after graduating. Sarah has said in interviews and dedications that Josh was one of her first and biggest supporters. Even before she had a publishing deal, he encouraged her to keep writing and believed in her stories.

Bloomsbury acquired Throne of Glass in 2012, and the first book came out in 2013. As Sarah’s career took off with Throne of Glass and then A Court of Thorns and Roses in 2015, Josh remained largely out of the spotlight. He works as a lawyer. Sarah has mentioned that having a partner with a stable, non-publishing job helped ground her during the chaos of tours, deadlines, and sudden fame.

Sarah and Josh have two children. She rarely shares their names or photos publicly, choosing to keep family life private. In author notes and social posts, she has credited Josh with handling a lot at home so she can write, especially during busy book launches. While appearing for an interview on the Call Her Daddy podcast in March 2026, Sarah addressed her relationship with Josh by saying:

“We are equals. We are partners in this. And I think that is what I try to write about in my books, is that kind of partnership. I’m so lucky that I get to live that every day. I get to write about true love because I live that every day with someone who supports me and cheers for me and is my biggest fan.”

Bestselling author Sarah J. Maas has announced the next two books in her A Court of Thorns and Roses series. The news was shared on August 17, 2026, through Instagram, where Sarah revealed the covers and titles, along with billboards in New York, Denver, and Los Angeles.

The first of the new releases is A Court of Splintered Harmony, arriving October 27, 2026. The story will bring back 'Koschei the Deathless.' As Prythian continues to recover from the Hybern War, the Night Court must unite to stop him and defend their territory. The second book is A Court of Forgotten Melody, due on January 12, 2027. It has been described as being about reclaiming what was lost. It will follow the Inner Circle of the Night Court as their fight against 'Koschei' continues.

Both will be released by Bloomsbury as part of The Valkyrie Cycle, a new continuation of the ACOTAR story. Sarah J. Maas had previously mentioned the upcoming books in an episode of the Call Her Daddy podcast on March 4, 2026, where she talked about returning to the world of 'Feyre Archeron' in Prythian. She said she had been working on the sixth book for a long time and needed time to find the right story and headspace.

She explained that The Valkyrie Cycle was too large to fit into one book. Splintered Harmony covers the first part, Forgotten Melody covers parts two and three, and a third book without a title yet will finish the story. She noted it should be read as one big narrative instead of a trilogy, because the arcs don’t resolve between volumes.

She added that this was a new approach for her and that the story was coming out this way on its own. She also questioned being restricted by things like page binding or how books fit on shelves.

Sarah J. Maas did not discuss the point of view for Splintered Harmony. She did say, however, that Forgotten Melody grew much bigger than she expected while writing it, with part one reaching around 400 pages. She said she wanted readers to have the books quickly, which is why the releases are back-to-back, meaning fans will get a lot of ACOTAR content in a short period.
