Dhurandhar's Casting Director Mukesh Chhabra On 20 Year Age Gap Between Ranveer, Sara, 'My Idea Was'

When the makers of Dhurandhar announced that Sara Arjun, aged 20, would play the love interest in the movie, next to Ranveer Singh, 40, netizens gossiped about the same. Many raised eyebrows on the 20-year age gap between the two stars and pondered about the reason behind the same in the movie. Now, Mukesh Chhabra, the casting director of Dhurandhar, has recently addressed the age gap issue. When the Aditya Dhar directed movie released in the theatres, netizens were floored by the chemistry of Sara and Ranveer.

Dhurandhar casting director, Mukesh Chhabra, sat down for an interview with the Free Press Journal. He spoke about why Sara Arjun was cast in Dhurandhar next to Ranveer Singh. The director revealed whether the thought of Ranveer and Sara having an age difference of 20 years ever crossed his mind during the casting of Dhurandhar. The Indian casting director shared of getting a clear brief and revealed:

"The story is that he (Ranveer) is trying to trap her (Sara). So, we knew that we wanted a young girl who is 20-21 years old. And when part 2 comes, whoever is talking about the age gap will get all the answers. It's not like we don't have good actors in that 26-27 years of age group; we have good actors. But this was (age gap) required in the film. Everything you can't explain to people. When I was also reading about the age gap, I was laughing. According to the film's brief, it is correct.”

Mukesh Chhabra reveals why Sara Arjun was selected amid 1300 girls who auditioned for the role

Dhurandhar's casting director, Mukesh Chhabra, further revealed being happy that a lot of directors, including Aditya Dhar, are now giving more chances to newcomers. He revealed that in Dhurandhar, his idea was to create a unique world of Ranveer and Sara. Mukesh revealed that for the movie, they wanted a completely fresh new face and shared:

"So, my idea was that we are creating the whole world. So, we are doing surprise casting, and this girl should look completely fresh. Even though she has been a child actor and has done a couple of films as a child actor, we wanted to give a fresh approach. So, I have been working with Sara for many years, and she has been coming for auditions. She is really a lovely girl. When she gave the audition, I saw the hidden talent behind her sweet face. She is such an amazing actor, you will see that in part 2. You will be surprised.”

For the unversed, the journey of Sara Arjun in front of the camera had started off early in her life. According to a report by the Economic Times, Sara was 18 months old when she debuted with a TV commercial. As years passed, she became one of the most famous child actresses and has done more than 100 advertisements. Her breakthrough came at the age of six when she essayed the role of 'Nila' in the Tamil movie, Deiva Thirumagal, starring Vikram. The character had gained her widespread fame. Sara, since then, showcased her versatility across the Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu movie industry. It was in 2013 when Sara made her debut in the 2013 horror movie, Ek Thi Daayan, and then did many movies such as Saivam, Saand Ki Aankh, and Ponniyin Selvan series.
