Add BollywoodShaadis on GoogleWitney Carson has lit up the Dancing with the Stars ballroom with her dazzling performances for years now. However, during one of the most important moments of her career, the professional dancer was quietly battling a major health scare. It almost ended her dream of dancing on one of the biggest stages in the world, before it even began. Now, before her upcoming stint on DWTS Season 35, Witney has opened up about her secret melanoma diagnosis and surgery.
Witney Carson's melanoma diagnosis changed everything for her
Witney Carson had a strong passion for dance from a young age. In fact, the country recognized her talent when she appeared on So You Think You Can Dance and spent two years with the Dancing with the Stars troupe. However, just when she was about to get the biggest opportunity of her career to become a dancing pro on DWTS, she received the most shocking news of her life.

Witney was promoted to a professional dancer on the reality TV series for its 19th season in 2014. Around the same time, doctors found a suspicious mole on the top of her foot. Since both of Witney's parents had previously battled melanoma, she and her siblings often underwent skin checks. During one such appointment, doctors found the mole. They warned the dancing pro that she must immediately undergo treatment to avoid the need for chemo.
According to Witney, doctors told her that her condition could become far more serious if it was not addressed quickly. Meanwhile, the timing could not have been more wrong. Eventually, the dancing pro decided to undergo surgery to remove the mole as well as several lymph nodes. However, the most surprising part was the fact that Witney kept her diagnosis and surgery hidden from producers, fellow cast members, judges, and even her celebrity partner, Cody Simpson.
The dancing pro made the difficult choice because she did not want to lose the opportunity after working towards it for years. After the surgery, doctors did not give her clearance to dance. Still, Witney pushed herself back into rehearsals before she fully recovered. It also meant that she had to hide the surgical scars as she continued to train. However, the physical impact of her surgery became clear when she went ahead with the rehearsals. Recalling the phase, Witney said:
"I remember I had not gotten cleared to dance yet, but of course, I was going to move. So I did anyway. And I looked down at my foot. And I just had a big pile of blood. My tennis shoe was completely soaked in blood. After every live show, I had to go to the doctor to get it wrapped and fixed. And no one knew."
The dancing pro managed to get away by keeping the situation private for five weeks as she competed alongside Cody. After Cody's elimination, Witney returned in the next season with actor Alfonso Ribeiro and gave one of the most memorable performances in the show's history. Together, they won the prestigious Mirrorball Trophy.

Over time, Witney has become one of the most popular dancing professionals on the show and has won multiple titles. She won the last Season 34 with Robert Irwin. Meanwhile, she got married and welcomed two children.
Witney Carson is set to compete on Dancing with the Stars Season 35 while four months pregnant
Witney Carson is the reigning Mirrorball champion, and she is returning for the upcoming Season 35. In fact, the dancing pro is four months pregnant with her third child. So, she is set to become the first professional dancer in the show's history to begin a season openly pregnant. As a mother of two, Witney is excited to welcome another baby into her life.
She has also received medical approval from her doctors before she signed for the season. But the dancing pro is also prepared to change routines to ensure safety. Witney has been paired with Jimmy Kimmel Live! fame Guillermo Rodriguez and they have already started rehearsals. Alongside this, she has been working as a mentor and judge on Dancing with the Stars: The Next Pro.
Despite facing all the challenges in her life, Witney Carson has never backed down from following her dreams. She still continues to dance with the same energy and effortless smile.
