For those unaware, the rock musician underwent surgery to remove a kidney stone last month, in July 2026. He returned on stage on August 21, 2026, but announced the very next day that he had to step away again.
According to reports, his doctors had advised that Bret still needs additional time to fully recover. While the news has left many fans worried, Bret might get well soon in the care of his longtime girlfriend, Kristi Gibson.

Kristi Gibson and Bret Michaels first met in the early ‘90s. Since then, they have dated on and off for several years. Their relationship has always been a topic of conversation among fans, but many might not be aware that they shared a considerable age gap.
Speaking of Kristi, she is a former model and actress. One of her most notable roles came in 1998 when she starred in the psychological thriller, A Letter From Death Row. Bret also starred in the film and directed it. This is not the only time that they have worked together on-screen.
In 2003, Kristi appeared in Bret’s music video for his song, Raine. The rock musician had dedicated this song to his first child. A few years later, in 2010, the couple was seen on the reality show, Bret Michaels: Life As I Know It, which captured their life and how they focused on their kids.
Bret and Kristi are parents to two children. Kristi gave birth to their first daughter, Raine Elizabeth, on May 20, 2000, and their second daughter, Jorga Bleu, on May 5, 2005. Bret and Kristi have often spoken about how proud they are of their kids. In 2023, Bret posted a sweet tribute for both his daughters and his girlfriend. Alongside several photos of them, he wrote:
"As the parents of two incredible daughters, Kristi & I cannot be more grateful for all of the strong, brave, resilient & incredible #women who have helped shape not just our past, but our present & our future and opened up such incredible opportunities for them, giving them such courage & strength to rock on.”
Kristi has been a huge support system for Bret Michaels in all the years that they have been together. For instance, when the Poison frontman suffered from a brain hemorrhage in April 2010, Kristi made it clear that no matter what happens, she would not leave his side. In an interview, she shared:
“I held his hand and told him, ‘It’s going to be okay.’ Just from his eyes, you could tell how much pain he was in. I wanted to take away that pain so bad. He was just worried about me and the girls - that’s all he cared about.”
Bret Michaels needs several months to recover from his recent surgery
A statement was posted on Bret Michaels’ FB page where it was revealed that following his comeback show at The Bowl at Sugar Hill, doctors and paramedics determined that Bret Michaels still needs a lot of time to recover from his kidney stone surgery. This is why he will be taking several months off from performing again to get back to 100 per cent. His doctors, Dr. Abby Borhan and Dr. Patel, stated:
“We will be pulling Bret off the road for the time being. He wanted to attempt this show, but we feel there is a much-needed period of rest and slow recovery ahead, especially considering the heat and humidity during the summer months and the effect it can have on his blood sugar levels.”
