Will Devil Wears Prada Return With A Third Sequel? Meryl Streep And More Reveal Their One Condition

After a long wait, the much-anticipated sequel to the movie, The Devil Wears Prada, hit theatres on May 1, 2026. Directed by David Frenkel, the movie brings back actors, Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway, Emily Blunt, and Stanley Tucci in their much-loved roles. For those unaware, The Devil Wears Prada 2 was released 20 years after the first part dropped in 2006. With the film already generating significant buzz, many are wondering whether it could have a third sequel as well. Amid this, Meryl, Anne, and Emily opened up about what exactly would make them return for a The Devil Wears Prada 3. 

Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway, and  Emily Blunt share the one condition that would make them return for a third sequel of The Devil Wears Prada 

Within just two days of The Devil Wears Prada 2 hitting theatres, cinephiles have already become hungry for a possible third sequel. Well, while we do not know whether there will be The Devil Wears Prada 3, the film's stars, Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway, and Emily Blunt, revealed that they would totally come back for a third movie if one condition is met. While speaking with People, the trio unanimously agreed that the condition would be “the script.”

Emily admitted that it needs to be “a good script” for them to return. According to her, “It's all about the script.” Once that is set, Anne Hathaway added that then everybody has to say yes because “it's got to be the core four.” This means that, along with Meryl, Anne, and Emily, recurring cast member, Stanley Tucci also has to agree to a third sequel. Most importantly, as Meryl Streep joked, “They have to be alive.” 

While speaking with the publication, Meryl, Anne, and Emily also reflected on stepping back into the shoes of their The Devil Wears Prada characters after 20 years. Anne revealed that she was only 22 years old when she shot the first film, while she was 43 at the time of the sequel. She said: 

"The thing that struck me was that when we made the first one, I was just a 22-year-old mess. I mean, I'm in such a different phase of my life. I'm really lucky. I found someone that I love so much [husband, Adam Shulman]. We've been married for 17 years. We've got two kids. I just feel like my life is in a much more complete and whole place. I felt so lost when I was 22, which really worked for the character."

According to Meryl Streep, the actress noted that the experience was “kind of easy.” She believes that “you keep these characters” over the years and confessed that she liked discovering her character, ‘Miranda’, again. Emily Blunt agreed with her co-star and added:

"You are sort of fused with this person you're playing. Listen, I love playing this lunatic. I had a lot of fun slithering back into her shoes."

The Devil Wears Prada 2 storyline 

Apart from Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway, Emily Blunt, and Stanley Tucci, The Devil Wears Prada 2 sees an elaborate cast featuring Justin Theroux, Simone Ashley, Tracie Thoms, Kenneth Branagh, and more. The story of the film begins in the present day, where ‘Miranda’ is still running the Runway magazine. Meanwhile, ‘Andy’, who had spent 20 years becoming a serious journalist at a fictional publication, gets fired along with many of her colleagues.

It is in the opening scenes of The Devil Wears Prada 2 that we see her receiving an award for her investigative journalism, only to learn that she and her colleagues have been fired before she can give her speech. Following this, Runway hires ‘Andy’ as a features editor. Here, she does everything to impress ‘Miranda.’ In the sequel, compared to the first part of the cult classic, the audience will get a closer look at the competitive world of journalism.
