NASA is all ready to send four astronauts to the Moon for the very first time since 1972. The mission has been called Artemis II, and will lift off from the famous Kennedy Space Centre in Florida. Well, Reid Wiseman is the commander of NASA's Artemis II mission. He is a former NASA chief astronaut and US Navy test pilot who previously spent 165 days in space on the International Space Station.
As NASA gears up for its historic Artemis II mission to the moon, the personal life of the commander, Reid Wiseman, has hogged the global limelight. The native of Baltimore has grabbed attention not just for his exuberant work as an astronaut but also for his story with his late wife, Carroll Taylor Wiseman. Here's everything you need to know about Carroll, who left a deep impression on Reid Wiseman.

A report by the Space revealed that Reid Wiseman's wife, Carroll Taylor Wiseman, was a registered nurse who worked in the neonatal intensive care unit. The report also revealed that Reid Wiseman's late wife, Carroll Taylor Wiseman, was deeply dedicated to the healthcare sector.

Carroll Taylor Wiseman was known to be very dedicated to her family life and very supportive of Reid Wiseman. She largely remained out of the public eye and maintained a lot of stability at home while Reid was selected as a NASA astronaut back in 2009. He served as a Flight Engineer aboard the ISS during Expedition 41 from May to November 2014.

An earlier report by EBSCO revealed that Reid Wiseman, back in 2020, had lost his wife, Carroll Taylor Wiseman, to cancer. For Reid, the demise of his wife became a turning point in his life. This is because he became a widower who raised his two daughters single-handedly. The astronaut has often revealed that one of the most difficult parts of parenthood is being a single parent and raising two children.

According to social media reports, Reid Wiseman had watched clips of the uncrewed Artemis I mission with his wife and three kids. The astronaut had revealed that he had struggled to leave his kids alone after Carroll's death. Reportedly, Reid had struggled to leave his daughters for a six-month mission to the International Space Station. One of his daughters is in college, while the other one is in high school. A report by the Houston Chronicle stated that Reid was fine with this 10-day mission, which had a higher risk but was more digestible for him.

Speaking about Carroll's husband, Reid Wiseman, back in 1975 in Baltimore, he was born as Gregory Reid Wiseman. The veteran NASA astronaut has also been a US Navy captain, and when he was selected by NASA, he had spent 165 days in space. NASA once spoke about the ace astronaut and revealed that he has gained a strong social media following via his missions. A part of the statement read:
"By sharing the raw emotions of spaceflight as seen through the eyes of a rookie flier. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, New York, and a Master of Science in Systems Engineering from the Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore. He served as Chief of the Astronaut Office. Wiseman has been assigned as Commander of NASA’s Artemis II mission.”
For the unversed, Reid and Carroll's daughters are Ellie and Katherine. The veteran astronaut took to his Instagram on March 31, 2026, to share a wholesome selfie with his two children. The selfie was taken in front of the towering SLS (Space Launch System) rocket, which will take the four astronauts to the moon. Commander, Reid Wiseman may have lost his wife, Carroll, to cancer, but he has raised his two teenage daughters single-handedly. After 1972, this was the first time humans had gone back to the moon. Reid had taken a walk with his daughters ahead of the Artemis II mission and in his caption had shared:
"Dad, we can’t leave the rocket without a .5 together! I love these two ladies, and I’m boarding that rocket a very proud father."

A report by the Houston Chronicle also revealed that Commander Reid Wiseman had explained to his daughters how the mission would be and made them reportedly aware of where the will documents are in the house. Reports also say Reid has made his kids aware of the risks of his work, especially when he prepares for a high-end mission.
