According to them, "the suddenness, the unanswered questions" made it difficult for them to come to terms with the loss. The bereaved family said:

"Nothing about this loss feels real... The suddenness, the unanswered questions, and the distance from home have made this tragedy even more overwhelming… there is an active investigation into the circumstances surrounding Ashlee's suspicious passing... we are placing our trust in the officials...we seek clarity and answers."
