Helmed by Nathan Fielder and Lance Oppenheim, the documentary You Can See Everything premiered at the Telluride Film Festival on September 6, 2026 (ET). The documentary follows the story of Elizabeth Holmes in the weeks before she was sent to prison and the three-year period after that. While the documentary is scheduled for a theatrical release by A24 in October 2026, netizens are curious to know where she is now.
Elizabeth Holmes' sentence amid You Can See Everything buzz
Elizabeth Holmes was once hailed as the youngest self-made female billionaire from Silicon Valley. She founded Theranos in 2004 after dropping out of Stanford University and claimed that its Edison device could perform hundreds of medical tests using only a few drops of blood. The technology was considered a massive breakthrough in medical history, and the company attracted high-profile investors.
Soon enough, some big names, including Rupert Murdoch, Larry Ellison, and the Walton family, were investing in Elizabeth Holmes' Theranos. Former senior US officials also sat on its board. Holmes managed to run a successful company for over a decade. However, in 2015, the wind shifted when she began facing legal trouble following a series of Wall Street Journal investigations questioning Theranos' technology.
The problem was that reports claimed to have found proof that Theranos' devices often failed to provide accurate results. The report also alleged that the company heavily relied on commercially available blood-testing machines despite claiming otherwise. Elizabeth Holmes soon found herself in court, facing federal prosecutors who alleged she knowingly misled investors about the company's technology.
Authorities said Theranos used falsified demonstrations and exaggerated revenue projections to raise hundreds of millions of dollars from investors. According to CNN, Elizabeth Holmes and Ramesh "Sunny" Balwani, the former president of Theranos and Holmes' ex-boyfriend, were each charged with 11 counts of fraud in June 2018, including two counts of conspiracy to commit wire fraud and nine counts of wire fraud.
In January 2022, a federal jury finally convicted Elizabeth Holmes on three counts of wire fraud and one count of conspiracy to commit wire fraud involving investors. She was acquitted on four other counts, as jurors failed to reach a verdict on three additional charges. Judge Edward Davila sentenced Holmes to 11 years and three months in prison in November 2022. However, she appealed the decision in April 2023.
According to reports, her lawyers called the trial an "unjust conviction." Judge Davila turned down her request to be released from prison, and Elizabeth Holmes was charged by the prosecution as a "flight risk," claiming that following her conviction, she bought a one-way ticket to Mexico. Her appeal was later rejected, and she was ordered to begin serving her sentence in 2023.
Where is Elizabeth Holmes now?
Elizabeth Holmes has been serving her sentence at Federal Prison Camp Bryan. According to PEOPLE, it is a minimum-security federal prison in Bryan, Texas, and she reported to prison on May 30, 2023, after exhausting attempts to remain free during her appeal. While her original sentence was for 11 years and 3 months, the publication revealed that it was reduced through good-conduct credits, and she is currently expected to be released on December 30, 2031.
According to reports, Elizabeth Holmes lives with other inmates at Camp Bryan and receives regular visits from her partner, Billy Evans, and their two children. In a February 2025 interview with the publication, she described prison as "hell and torture" and said parting from her family after visits remains the hardest aspect of incarceration. As per a CNN report, she has requested that President Donald Trump commute her sentence. However, there hasn't been any update on it.
