Elizabeth Holmes’ husband, Billy Evans, has been active in a different field
Billy Evans was raised in San Diego in a well-known family in the hospitality industry. His grandparents, William and Anne Evans, started the Evans Hotel Group in 1953, which is now led by his father, William L. Evans, and includes the Bahia Resort Hotel, Catamaran Resort Hotel and Spa, and The Lodge at Torrey Pines.
He is also linked to a private collection and venue called Evans Garage, which is said to hold vintage cars going back to the 1880s. His LinkedIn profile revealed that he studied at MIT and later joined LinkedIn as an analyst under its strategy and analytics leadership program from 2015 to 2017. He then worked at Luminar Technologies, the self-driving technology company founded by Austin Russell, as a manager of special projects until January 2019.
Billy Evans and Elizabeth Holmes met in 2017 at a charity event through a mutual acquaintance and spoke for several hours. In a joint interview with The New York Times, Evans indicated that they felt an instant connection. Holmes noted that he came into the relationship with understandable doubts given the coverage of her at the time, and she felt that starting from that place allowed them to know each other more deeply than they might otherwise have.
The couple reportedly got engaged in early 2019. When Billy popped the question, he reportedly gave Elizabeth his MIT signet ring instead of a traditional diamond ring. A former colleague of Evans was cited by the New York Post as suggesting that the choice was deliberate to avoid an extravagant piece that could be subject to asset forfeiture.
Both Holmes and Evans have kept their social media presence private. In 2019, a Vanity Fair reporter referenced private accounts linked to them and shared images from them, including one with a birthday message from Evans describing the past year as his best.
Their first child, son William Holmes Evans, was born on July 10, 2021, in Redwood City, California. The pregnancy was among the reasons cited for delays to Elizabeth’s trial, which had already seen multiple postponements due to the pandemic.
After her conviction in January 2022, they were expecting a second child. Holmes appeared visibly pregnant at her sentencing in November 2022. Court records filed in February 2023 indicated she had given birth to their daughter, Invicta. Holmes reported to Federal Prison Camp in Bryan, Texas, on May 30, 2023, after her request to remain out on bail pending appeal was denied.

Elizabeth Holmes was convicted in January 2022 on four of eleven counts, including wire fraud and conspiracy to commit wire fraud. While she showed little emotion as the verdicts were read, Billy Evans was described as visibly shaken during a break.
Billy’s father, Bill Evans, also attended the trial and was reported to have initially spoken to the press as a concerned citizen under a different name before later appearing with the family. Before sentencing in November 2022, Evans sought leniency, saying their son would grow up meeting his mother through glass under guard, and that separation would be heartbreaking for them.
As mentioned, Holmes reported to Federal Prison Camp Bryan in Texas on May 30, 2023. She was visited for several hours days later by Evans and her parents, and now reportedly receives twice-weekly visits from Evans and their two children. Conjugal visits are not allowed. She later described the experience as extremely difficult, particularly the farewells after visits.
For a New York Times joint profile, reporter Amy Chozick spent time with the couple, including a zoo outing with their children, meals together, and a visit to their rental home. When asked about truthfulness given her fraud conviction, Evans intervened to support her, suggesting she simply had to speak honestly despite public doubt.
When questioned about the timing of her pregnancies around the trial and surrender dates, Holmes dismissed the public perception and described it as unfortunate timing, adding that finding love during such a difficult period had been profoundly meaningful to her.
