These Two Brides Broke The Age-Old Wedding Ritual By Tying Mangalsutra On Their Husbands' Neck

For several days we plan, how the day will dawn. Make-up, jewellery, and the dress, exclusivity is what we demand. After all, in the end, our wedding day is the start of new beginnings and an entirely new life. In each one of our lives, the day for which we wait for years to come is our wedding day. Going back in time when we were young and silly, mostly all of us had played wedding games with our little dolls, dressing them up as a bride and sometimes being one. (Recommend Read: Taimur Ali Khan Shows Off His Boss Baby Side And We Wonder Why Little Tim Is Growing Up So Fast )

Since a very early age, being a bride was our favourite make-a-believe game. From the phera ceremony to tying the mangalsutra, we loved every big and small ritual. And for as long as we remember, tying mangalsutra has always been a privilege done by the groom. Ever wondered why? While we might never get an answer for it, but there are two brides who have challenged the false notions and set a new example of gender equality in marriages.

On March 11, 2019, the couples from Nalatwad town of Vijayapura district created history with the brides tying mangalsutras around their husbands’ neck. And we are hooting for the two brides and their husbands! Another couple, Prabhuraj and Ankita, who belong to two different communities, also ditched the age-old practice of tying the knot. The modern wedding also set another example when the couple refused the Kanyadaan ceremony. The couples were blessed by thousands of attendees from the four families and their friends in the ceremony which also saw the presence of some of the most prominent Lingayat leaders including guru Mahantesh Swami, Lingasugur Vijay Mahantesh Mutt Siddhalinga Swami, Guledagudda Basavaraj Devaru, Mahant Teertha seer, Satti Mutt's Basavalinga Swami and Madara Chennaiah Guru Peetha's Basava Murthy.

Well, it looks like finally, we are moving forward from the age-old traditions that are doing no justice to our society. And, thanks to all these inspirational families and couples who are breaking the stereotypes and following their heart. In February 2019, there was another wedding that went viral on social media, wherein, female pandits performed the wedding. However, the highlight of the entire wedding was when the father refused to give away his daughter like possession and had said, “My daughter is not a property to give away”. (You May Also Like: Somi Khan And Deepak Thakur Break All Their Ties?
