Tiger Woods' highly-publicized Driving Under the Influence (DUI) case has finally ended. The final verdict in the case was announced after the golf legend attended a court hearing. During the same hearing, he accepted a plea deal in the case, which has restrained him from driving for the next five years. Meanwhile, the 50-year-old sports icon attended the hearing with his girlfriend, Vanessa Trump, who is dealing with breast cancer. Yet, she decided to support him through the proceedings quietly.

Tiger Woods will stay away from driving until 2031

Tiger Woods, who has had a turbulent year, appeared before a judge in Martin County, Florida, for the final hearing in his DUI case. It was related to his change-of-plea hearing linked to his DUI case from March 2026, where he was involved in a crash near his Jupiter Island home. The golf icon was accompanied by his longtime girlfriend, Vanessa Trump.

Some pictures from inside the court showed him listening as the court finalized an agreement to end the case without a trial. During the hearing, Tiger pleaded guilty to reckless driving and refusing to submit to a lawful test. In turn, the judge suspended his driver's license for the next five years. They also asked him to pay a USD 1,000 financial penalty for the same.

It also means that the golf star cannot ride a golf cart, since it is considered a motor vehicle in Florida. Tiger's fans know how he likes to be behind the wheel of his golf carts, especially during practice. So, any attempt to use it may also land him behind bars. However, in California, a golf cart under 1300 pounds is not considered a motor vehicle, though it is unclear whether he can still use it.

Considering Tiger's record with reckless driving, the judge also gave him a stern warning. He made it clear to the 50-year-old that any violation of the suspension could result in jail. Eventually, his courtroom appearance got major attention because it was Tiger's first major public appearance after his return from a rehabilitation program in Switzerland.

Initially, Tiger voluntarily decided to enroll himself in treatment after the crash. He did not stand to give any lengthy statement after his hearing. But Vanessa Trump's presence spoke volumes. It highlighted his support system during a challenging period in life.

Meanwhile, Tiger had stepped away from professional golf after his arrest in March 2026. During that time, he had announced that he would seek treatment and focus on his health. Therefore, he traveled overseas to deal with issues related to his dependency on prescription medicines. In fact, the move also ended any hopes of him making a competitive return in the 2026 PGA Tour season.

Despite his absence from the tournament golf, Tiger has stayed connected to the sport. He also worked behind the scenes on many golf-related initiatives and administrative projects to improve the future of professional competition. Some friends and supporters of Tiger also revealed over time how the 15-time major champion spent the last few months reflecting and recovering.

What led to Tiger Woods' DUI case in March 2026?

Tiger Woods was involved in a crash in March 2026 with a pickup truck. According to investigators, he was driving his Range Rover through a residential area when it struck a pickup truck towing a trailer. The crash made the SUV roll over. But, fortunately, there were no serious injuries. The officials who reported at the scene mentioned that Tiger showed signs of impairment, such as sluggish behavior and bloodshot eyes.

His breathalyzer test showed that he had no alcohol in his system. However, authorities alleged that he refused to give a urine sample. Investigators also added that they found hydrocodone pills with him. Later, the golf legend admitted to taking prescription medicine before the crash.

Earlier, he was charged with misdemeanor DUI-related offenses and refusal to give a lawful test. But the later negotiations led to a plea agreement that eliminated the most serious charge.
