As per multiple media reports, the rumours about Vijay and his wife, Sangeetha's separation began after the actor's Wikipedia page claimed that he and Sangeetha had decided to get a divorce amicably. This update left his massive fanbase worried, as they had not imagined this to happen even in their wildest dreams. When a few fans did some digging, they noticed that Sangeetha was nowhere to be seen at Atlee’s wife, Priya’s baby shower and Vijay's upcoming movie, Varisu’s music launch event. And her absence added further fuel to the fire.

However, as per a report in Pinkvilla, a source close to the couple revealed that Vijay and Sangeetha's divorce rumours are not true and added that Sangeetha is currently holidaying in the US with their children and thus, she was absent from the recent events. The source was quoted as saying:
"The rumours of Vijay and Sangeetha’s divorce are baseless. We have no idea how it started."
