Sushmita Sen rose to immense prominence after she won the Miss Universe pageant in 1994. Since then, she has enchanted people not only with her beauty but also with her eloquent speaking style. Sushmita stepped into Bollywood in 1996 and has been entertaining the audience with her power-packed and versatile performances in several popular films and shows. Moreover, the actress never shied away from publicly talking about her romantic relationships.
Recently, we chanced upon an old clip of Sushmita’s appearance on a chat show. In one of the episodes of Farooq Shaikh’s talk show, Jeena Isi Ka Naam Hai, the former Miss Universe opened up about her first boyfriend, Rajat Tara. She recalled the time when the latter helped her win the coveted pageant. While the host asked Rajat about Sushmita’s modelling days, he said that they met for the first time when she was auditioning for a model show.

After this revelation, Sushmita shared that Rajat Tara was her first boyfriend. She tagged him as an ‘important man’ in his life, and reminisced about the time when she had to shift to Mumbai to train for Miss Universe. She credited Rajat for being there for her in Mumbai while she was training for the pageant. She said:
“Aapko main ek bohot zaroori baat batana chahti hun. He is my first boyfriend, Rajat. Such an important man kyunki jab main Miss India jeeti aur mujhe Miss Universe ke liye train karne ke liye Bombay aana pada, toh Bombay mere liye ek bohot hi foreign sheher tha kyunki main Delhi mein badi huyi hun, wahan pe rone lagi Delhi mein ke mujhe nahi jana Bombay, mujhe nahi jana Miss Universe, akele akele nahi karna.”
Sushmita Sen further revealed that her first boyfriend left his job for her. She said that back then he used to work for Benetton and had asked for a month’s leave. Unfortunately, he was fired from his workplace. Then Rajat came to Mumbai with the actress and was with her during the entirety of her training in the city. She said:
“Toh he was working for Benetton uss waqt, toh Rajat ne uss waqt kaha ki ye toh manegi nahi aunty, mumma se baat huyi aur inhone jaake Benetton mein bol diya ki ya toh aap mujhe ek mahne ki chutti de do ya phir jo aapko thik lage, inko kaam se nikal diya. Rajat hai very massively responsible jinke support ke bagair main ek mahine Bombaby mein nahi guzar sakti thi.”

As soon as the video was shared on social media, netizens took to the comment section to pen their thoughts on Sushmita Sen’s revelations. While a section of the online community hailed her for speaking so openly about Rajat, others asked her if he was so important then why she left him. One user wrote, “Very honest confession with full of respect towards her true friend.” Another one said, “I've never seen another woman like her. I hold so much respect for this honest and amazing woman.” A third comment can be read as “You should have married him.”
