While neither Tom Cruise nor Katie Holmes nor Suri Noelle have addressed the reason for the rift between the father and daughter, fans believe that Tom's religious beliefs might have something to do with the matter. For the unversed, Tom is a firm follower of Scientology, a practice that believes that humans are immortal spiritual beings called thetans who have forgotten their true nature. The religious movement was founded by American author L. Ron Hubbard in 1954 and has since gained immense fame.
Fans believe that Tom Cruise was not pleased with Suri's decision to leave Scientology. They alleged that in Scientology, a person is not allowed to have a close relationship with those who are not a part of the religion. They view people outside their practice as "suppressive people." On the other hand, many believe that it was Katie Holmes who didn't want Tom to have a relationship with Tom. A fan spoke about the same on a discussion platform and said:
"If a woman really, really doesn't want her kid to have a relationship with their father, they usually won't have that relationship. It was almost certainly in Suri's best interests not to have a relationship with Tom because she would have lost Katie if she had, as Katie was not going to be a Scientologist. Additionally, Suri's official voter registration records from her college's address in Allegheny County, Pennsylvania, include her new legal identity, Suri Noelle.
