Supriya Pathak is most popularly recognised by her on-screen character, ‘Hansa’ in the hit show, Khichdi. Its first instalment came about back in 2002, and was immediately loved by a thronging audience. Later in 2018, the series got revamped with mostly the same cast and fans were immediately sent into a collective meltdown of nostalgia. However, it was the character of ‘Hansa’, played by Supriya, which has always won hearts because of her perfect comic timing and funny antics. And now, the actress opened up about why she chose to play such a character in the first place.
In a recent interaction with Bollywood Bubble, Supriya Pathak along with the show’s director, Aatish Kapadia and co-actor, JD Majethia opened up about the initial days of the show. Aatish mentioned that the first character to be taken on-board was Supriya. Adding on to that, Supriya then recalled her initial reaction upon hearing the script of the show. In her words:
“Aise bhole se do bacche aaye the meri maa se milne. Main itna hassi hu, main kabhi bhi aise script narration pe itna hassi nahi jtna main Khichdi ke first episode pe hassi thi. Aur mujhe itna khoobsurat laga tha ki hamari first narration jo tha, usme se kafi kuch badla. Par wo itna sundar tha ki main sirf hassi nahi thi, there was so much depth. The whole idea of a house, of the building being the major character that we couldn’t carry on later was so beautiful.”

In the same interaction, Supriya was then asked the reason for which she chose to enact a dumb role as that of ‘Hansa’. While the director, Aatish mentioned that she accepted it because she recreated a vision for the character just by hearing the script, it was Supriya, who later added that it was the sense of challenge in playing such a role which became her driving spirit. She mentioned:
“Aur ek challenge bhi tha kyuki maine aisa kabhi kiya bhi nahi tha to being such a dumb person. Pehele ek serial bhi tha called Idhar Udhar, usme Ratna didi (Ratna Pathak Shah) played the dumb character and I was playing the smart one. Aur main hamesha se smart ya serious role kiya tha, toh mujhe laga Hansa is something. I really fell in love with her.”
In her personal life, Supriya Pathak is happily married to Pankaj Kapur and the duo is parents to two kids, Ruhaan and Sanah. For the unversed, Pankaj was previously married to Neelima Azeem and he has a son, Shahid Kapoor with his ex-wife. In an interaction with Twinkle Khanna on the show, The Icons, Supriya talked about her mother, Dina Pathak’s reaction to her marriage with Pankaj. Supriya revealed that her mother used to consider the former’s marriage a mistake, even after the birth of her grandchildren, Ruhaan and Sanah.

In the same interaction, Supriya Pathak talked about her step-son, Shahid Kapoor and revealed that she met him for the first time when he was all but six years old. Calling him the cutest baby she had ever seen, Supriya said:
“I met Shahid when he was six years old. So, for me, he was the cutest baby I’d seen. He was such a lovely child."
