Hours after taking the wedding vows with her long-time beau, Sonam Kapoor added her husband’s surname to her name and changed it to Sonam Kapoor Ahuja. The whole idea of feminism is to have a choice to do what one wants to do and have equal opportunities, says Sonam who has been facing a lot of flak for taking her husband’s name. Sonam Kapoor Ahuja’s husband, Anand Ahuja added his wife’s name to his and is now, Anand S Ahuja. Well, ‘This is why he’s the man’! We are not saying this, Sonam had put an Insta story (which she deleted later) in which she had written, ‘This is why he’s the man’, and we are just agreeing with her. About changing her name to Sonam Kapoor Ahuja, she was quoted as saying to DNA, “I’ve always maintained that I’m a feminist. I have a choice to change my name when I want to do it. The fact is that Kapoor is also my father’s surname. So, I chose to keep both. And just to be a part of our family, Anand has also changed his name. But nobody wrote about that! My husband or his family has not asked me to do anything. Likewise, he did it on his own. We anyway take our father’s names, so if we can give that respect to them, we can give the same respect to our husbands, too. It’s my personal choice and somebody judging me for it is ridiculous." Talking about the same to Mumbai Mirror, Sonam stated, “Kapoor is also my father's name, so it's a man's name anyway. I chose to keep both. Anand has also changed his name but nobody wrote about that. I just decided to do it on social media because that's my platform, to say that I've made a choice. It's my personal choice, nobody put a gun to my head... She further opened up about changing her name and said, “I have been engaged for a long time. It took me a long time to decide. It's a choice, at the end of the day. And if people don't understand the concept of feminism, they need to go online and look at the description. Sonam Kapoor Ahuja and Anand S Ahuja will shift to London and divide their time shuttling between London, Delhi and Mumbai. She revealed, “I have been shuttling between Mumbai and London for the past two years. It seems no one noticed this so far. My life isn’t going to change much; what has been happening for the past two years will continue.”
Well, Sonam Kapoor Ahuja and Anand S Ahuja are surely setting up some great examples to inspire all the couples out there.
