It has been over six months since Today co-host Savannah Guthrie’s mom, Nancy Guthrie, was kidnapped. For those who don't know, Nancy was last seen on January 31, 2026, at her Tucson home in Arizona. The investigation into her disappearance has been going on for a long time, with barely any new information regarding her whereabouts. This led Savannah to make a new plea to the kidnappers. Following this, the sheriff in Nancy's case is speaking out.

Sheriff Chris Nanos is positive that they will ‘resolve’ Nancy Guthrie's missing case

Even though it has been more than six months since Nancy Guthrie was taken from her Tucson home, the Arizona sheriff who is leading the investigation into the abduction case appears to be optimistic about the outcome. It was after Savannah Guthrie shared her new emotional plea about her mother on Instagram on Monday, July 27, 2026, that Sheriff Chris Nanos of the Pima County Sheriff’s Department opened up about the case during an interview with NBC. In the interview, which aired on the Today Show on Tuesday, July 28, 2026, he was heard saying:

“We have so much DNA to sort through. We have so much in terms of video evidence to look at. I’m still positive that we’re gonna resolve this case.”

For the unversed, alongside the Pima County Sheriff's Department, the FBI has also been on the case since February 2026. While no official suspects have been named so far, the FBI did succeed in uncovering doorbell camera footage where a masked intruder, reportedly a male, entered Nancy’s property on February 1, 2026. The man was armed and also reportedly wearing a hiking jacket.

Savannah Guthrie begged her mom Nancy's kidnappers to ‘do the right thing’

In the new video that Savannah posted on Instagram, she directly addressed her mom's kidnappers, urging them to “do the right thing,” as since Nancy went missing, she and her family have been living in a “nightmare that will not end.” According to her, they had already done their part, but they would still never give up looking for their 84-year-old mother. Savannah said:

“I’m coming on today with a very specific message. It has been months since our mom was taken from us. Our family is in agony. We are in a nightmare that will not end. Nothing about our situation has changed. We have done our part, and we will never stop looking for her. We will always ache for her and feel that hole in our hearts.”

She claimed that the world is an unforgiving place; this is why the kidnappers should make the right choice. And even though Nancy had been kept away from home for so long, it is never too late to do what is right and return her. She said:

“The world can be a cruel and unforgiving place, and I know that you have tried to do things the right way. So I’m asking you, begging you to do the right thing now. Make the right choice. Help us find her. Tell us where to look for her. I truly believe it is never too late to do the right thing. Help us bring this situation to an end. For all of us, no matter where we’ve been and what we’ve done, I believe there is always a way home. Please make the right choice.”

Erin McLaughlin, the Today Show correspondent who had reported on the video during the show on July 28, 2026, admitted that “it's still not clear why Savannah decided to release this message now.” However, Erin believed that it “could be in response to a new line of communication.”
