Shefali Shah Opens Up About Facing Molestation In Public Places, Reveals It Was 'Shameful'

The popular Bollywood actress, Shefali Shah opened up about being touched inappropriately in public and how she didn't think much about it just like other woman.

Shefali Shah is one of the most versatile actresses in the entertainment industry. She made her acting debut with Ram Gopal Varma's film, Rangeela, in 1995. Later, she went on to work in films like Mohabbatein, Juice, Someday, Lakshmi, Once Again, Human, Dil Dhadakne Do, Darlings and many more. Moreover, she has even worked on a Netflix original crime drama, Delhi Crime. Apart from her amazing acting skills, Shefali is known for her bold and unapologetic attitude. Recently, something similar was seen when the actress opened up about being touched inappropriately in public.

In a recent episode of the ANI podcast, the Jasla actress, Shefali Shah opened up about facing molestation in public places. Talking about the same mentioned how low it feels to be touched inappropriately in public. She also recalled an incident and stated that she was touched in a wrong manner in a crowded market, but she never spoke about it became it was shameful. In her words:

"I remember walking in a crowded market and being touched inappropriately and feeling crap about it. And, never ever saying anything because I wouldn’t say it was guilt but it’s just…shameful."

In the same conversation, Shefali talked about how women start doubting themselves when an incident like molestation happens. Elaborating more about it, the actress stated that just like any other woman, she too questioned herself if she had done anything to invite such actions. Shefali even mentioned how women generally don't talk much about such incidents and try to keep it to themselves. Talking about the same, she said:

"A lot of people think, did I do anything? You feel guilty, shameful and you feel ‘bhool jao. Shove it under the carpet kind of thing’. Honestly, I don’t think I gave it so much thought."

When Shefali talked about facing sexism from her in-laws

Shefali Shah was earlier married to Harsh Chhaya, however, the duo parted ways in the year 2000. Later, the actress fell in love with film producer, Vipul Amrutal Shah. Earlier, in an interview with Pinkvilla, Shefali had opened up about her marriage life and revealed that she faced sexism at the hand of her in-laws. Talking about the same, the actress mentioned that her in-laws used to question her for working long hours but would never ask the same to their son.

When Shefali opened up about belonging to a lower middle-class family

In an interview with Mashable India, Shefali had opened up about her childhood struggles and revealed that she belongs to a lower-middle-class family. The actress recalled she never had a permanent address and had to move places with her uncle and aunt until her father got a job at the Reserve Bank Of India. In the same conversation, Shefali added that she used to live in a Fisherman colony and revealed that the size of her room was four times a car.
