Shamar Elkins And Wife, Shaneiqua's Separation Trial Was Scheduled Hours After Louisiana Shooting

A 31-year-old Louisiana resident, Shamar Elkins, has left the world shocked with a mass killing. The horrific incident, which took place on April 19, 2026 (Sunday), included Shamar killing eight children and critically wounding two women in Shreveport, Louisiana. Notably, he was reported to be the father of seven out of the eight children (aged from 18 months to 14 years) who died. Shamar's mental health deterioration due to his impending divorce with his wife, Shaneiqua reportedly contributed to his mass killing. Amid that, details of their separation proceedings have surfaced.

Shamar Elkins and his wife were set to get divorced

Shamar Elkins and his wife were in the midst of a separation when he shot ten people and ended up killing eight of them. The deceased included seven children of Shamar and his wife, Shaneiqua and one child predicted to be of a family friend or cousin. Besides them, Shaneiqua and another woman who lived around the neighbourhood were shot and hospitalised in critical condition. Notably, the incident occurred just a day before the perpetrator and his wife were supposed to appear in court for their separation proceedings.

The information was shared by Crystal Brown with Sun Sentinel. Crystal is a cousin of one of the two women who got shot by Shamar Elkins. Crystal said that the couple had been arguing about the separation before the shooting. According to other family members of Shamar, his wife wanted a divorce, but he didn't. This rift might have led to his developing bitter feelings towards his family, ultimately prompting him to fire shots at them. Shreveport Police Department's spokesperson, Chris Bordelon said that detectives were confident the shooting was "entirely a domestic incident."

Reports suggested that he was struggling with the prospect of a divorce from his wife, Shaneiqua Elkins, who was also shot and critically wounded in the attack. Amid that, a confusing account of his "1 on 1 date" with his eldest daughter at a restaurant, just hours before the shooting, surfaced.
