The news was confirmed by Diljit and the streaming platform on the night of July 5, 2026, and netizens have since been outraged. And now, former cricketer, Harbhajan Singh has also reacted to the film's removal from the OTT platform.
Netizens left furious after Satluj was removed from OTT platform
The project, originally titled Panjab 95, is based on the life and death of social activist, Jaswant Singh Khalra. The film recounts his battle against the alleged extrajudicial killings in Punjab post-1984 riots. One user praised the film's powerful story and wrote, "Satluj is far more than a movie; it's a cinematic portrayal inspired by one of the most debated chapters in Punjab's history." The user commended Diljit Dosanjh and the entire cast for delivering performances with remarkable conviction and emotion. The comment further read:
"Delaying or removing it from an OTT platform cannot erase the public discussion it has already generated. Once a story reaches people, debate, scrutiny, and reflection continue beyond the screen."
Another user quoted Diljit Dosanjh's dialogue from the film, "I CHALLENGE THE DARKNESS," and expressed his dismay over the film being removed. They said, "What a pity that Satluj has been made unavailable in India. A powerful movie." A third user echoed similar sentiments and wrote, "I watched Satluj today, and I could not take my eyes off the TV screen. What a powerful and heart-touching film. It is disappointing that such an important film was removed from OTT platforms in India. People deserve the right to watch these true stories."

Harbhajan Singh speaks out on Satluj
Harbhajan Singh also came forward to share his views on the film. Deeply moved by the story of human rights activist, Jaswant Singh Khalra, Harbhajan shared a heartfelt note on social media. He shared how Jallianwala Bagh stands as one of history's "greatest massacres". However, after watching Satluj and learning about the story of Jaswant Singh Khalra, the question that haunts him has changed. He questions, "What is more painful than oppression by an outsider? When those entrusted to protect their own people are accused of becoming the source of their greatest fear?" He further added:
"A police officer’s duty is to protect innocent lives—not to abuse power. Khalra’s courage exposed evidence of alleged illegal disappearances and secret cremations, reminding us that the abuse of state power can leave wounds that last for generations. Punjab’s mothers are still waiting for answers. Many families are still waiting for justice. Truth cannot remain buried forever. Outstanding work by @HoneyTrehan and @diljitdosanjh for bringing Jaswant Singh Khalra's story to the world."
Harbhajan Singh's post comes hours after Satluj was removed from OTT in India. The film was released on Zee5 on July 3, 2026, and was removed from the platform on the evening of July 5, 2026. Zee5 issued statements, expressing their gratitude to the people who "chose to subscribe, watch and champion the film." They asserted that they stand by the film and the vision. However, due to certain developments, the film had to be removed. A part of the statement read:
"At ZEE5, we stand firmly by Satluj and the creative vision behind it. We believe powerful storytelling can inspire and endure. We remain committed to championing authentic and meaningful narratives. In light of the current developments, Satluj will be unavailable in India until further notice. We remain committed to exploring every appropriate avenue through due process to bring the film back to our audiences at the earliest opportunity. Our commitment to creators and to stories told with conviction, artistic integrity and purpose remains unwavering."
