In our B-town, when two people meet (more often than not, of the opposite gender), a bonhomie begins. In a blink, it nurtures to babies and beaus. Would you agree? Without any choice, you’ve got to. At least, that’s how 'conjectures' (Koffee with Karan fans would wink here) work on Page 3s.
One of the most glamorous actresses of the Hindi film industry was once dating the heartthrob John Abraham in the late 90s. Did it ring any bell? Okay, here’s another clue- she recently got married to a person outside the industry. Still guessing?
How about- she was speculated to be pregnant during her pheras? Got it, right? That’s how the contagious rumours and speculations work.
Riya Sen got married to her long-time beau Shivam Tewari on August 16, 2017, in a lavish ceremony in Pune amidst her close friends and family members. For the uninformed, read the story of her wedding here.
In an exclusive interview to SpotboyE, Riya Sen spilt many beans. Let’s see what all trivia we get to know through her interview.
When she was asked, where did she first met Shivam, she answered:
“We met on February 12 at Harry's Bar in Juhu for a brunch, which got over at midnight! He had flown in from Delhi the previous night. Actually, we were set up by friends as a joke and he had flown down to meet me.”
Moving on, when Riya was questioned as to what made her fully sure that Shivam is the one she wants to spend the rest of her life with, she simply said:
“Can't explain. It was quite instantaneous.”
She was then asked, how did he propose to her, she retorted:
“He just woke up one morning and said: Let's get married NOW!”
So, how exactly did Riya’s family react when she told them that she wanted to marry?
“They were in a state of disbelief! It took them some time to come to terms with the fact that their baby is (I guess, I will always be a baby for them) wants to tie the knot.”
On being asked about many rumours of her pregnancy before her marriage, she said:
“I expected that speculation.”
What about the honeymoon?
“It will have to wait because I am busy shooting.”
Riya’s reply, to the meaning and importance of marriage for her, will surely seem rational and will melt anybody’s heart. Here’s what she replied:
“According to me, it's a leap of fate. Marriage doesn't guarantee anything, it doesn't come with perfect settings. Marriage largely entails love, respect, honesty, understanding and trust between two people, which only you can create for yourself to make it last.”
But on being asked about the compromises and sacrifices that marriage brings with it, she said:
“Agreed, it is definitely a compromise when I have to leave my dogs and travel Delhi to be with my husband. My pets are my life. This does sacrifice my family time but I am trying to strike a balance.”
Why do you think is the institution of marriage is dying, and you and we see so many couples just throwing it away at the first problem they encounter? Also, loyalty has hit rock-bottom. Here's what she has to say on this:
“I think cheating is by choice not by accident. I think, real men/ women stay faithful because they love who they've chosen. There's something wrong with your character if opportunity dictates over your loyalty.”
She further added:
“As for divorce or breakups, you should be in a relationship to be happy, laugh and make good memories. But if you are constantly angry, upset and crying all the time, I guess it's best to let go sometimes. We all have one life. Everyone deserves to be happy. I know there are plenty of broken marriages around me, but I also know a lot of happily married couples.”
So, where does Riya stay now? She replied:
“I shuttle between Delhi, Mumbai and Kolkata. There's no drastic change in my life after marriage.”
About her work commitments and plans to work in the showbiz, she said:
“I am working on a web-series right now for Balaji- Ragini MMS 2, a Bengali movie Senapathi, and a lot more in the pipeline.”
When she was asked about her and Shivam’s mutual understanding, and his take on her being an actress, she said:
“Yes, he loves the fact that I am someone that I want to be and in a profession that millions of others want to be in. Even if I want to change my kind of work someday, I am sure he'll be there to motivate me.”
Does Riya miss her parents and Raima, post marriage?
“I miss them 24 X 7- but that's nothing new. They've mostly been living in Kolkata while I largely live in Mumbai. The good thing is that we're always travelling to meet each other.”

Then, Riya was asked if marriage can be very binding, partners have to tell each other where they are, when they will get back home. Is she ready for that kind of life?
“You only report your whereabouts if you want to. If it happens organically, it’s cute. The good thing is that neither Shivam nor I is clingy and we both respect each other's space.”
Riya’s fans know that she is an amazing writer. When she was asked as to why she doesn’t take up writing as a hobby, she said:
“Because I'm NOT Salman Rushdie. Hahaha”
Well, we’re sure every fan would drool over Riya after reading this interview. We wish her a happy married life further, and may she continue doing films that entertain us.
