Considered the OG chocolate boy of Bollywood, Ranbir Kapoor has swooned many hearts with his charming looks. The actor, who made his Bollywood debut in Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Saawariya in 2007, is hailed for his effortless performances in films like Wake Up Sid, Rajneeti, Rockstar, Barfi and many more.
Ranbir had never shared a close bond with his father, the late Rishi Kapoor. A few years back, Ranbir had revealed in one of the interviews that, as a kid, he was petrified of his father. When Rishi Kapoor would ask him to eat his vegetables, Ranbir would start crying. He also revealed that when he had made his acting debut, he had dreaded his father, Rishi’s reaction.
Rishi Kapoor too often talked about his equation with Ranbir and wished they could be friendlier with each other. In 2014, Ranbir Kapoor moved out of his family home and started living on his own. Talking about the emotional moment in a conversation with Mumbai Mirror, Rishi revealed that Ranbir’s decision affected him and Neetu Kapoor.
In the same conversation, Rishi Kapoor also addressed how he screwed up his relationship with Ranbir despite Neetu warning him. Talking about the same, he stated:
“My father gave me space when I moved out after marriage and I give Ranbir his space too when he decided to move out and share a home with his girlfriend. In this house, he had one room: how could that be enough for a 33-year-old boy? I know I’ve screwed up my relationship with Ranbir even though my wife kept telling me about what I was doing. It’s now too late to change it; both of us will not be able to adjust to the change. It’s like there’s this glass wall, we can see each other, we can talk, but that’s it. He doesn’t live with us anymore, which is also a very big setback to Neetu and me.”
In 2017, Rishi Kapoor launched his biography, Khullam Khulla, and it was his son, Ranbir, who penned about his relationship with his dad. The actor expressed his desire to be friendlier with Rishi and wrote:
“I am closer to my mother. I feel that Dad modelled his relationship with me on the one he shared with his own father. And it is true that I have never crossed a certain line with him. But there is no sense of loss or vacuum here. I do wish sometimes that I could be friendlier with him or even spend more time with him."
Ranbir Kapoor is married to actress Alia Bhatt, and the couple is proud parents to a baby girl, Raha Kapoor.
