For the unversed, Ram’s father, Anil 'Billy' Kapoor, is a renowned name in the advertising world.
Ram Kapoor gets teary-eyed while revealing his devastating decision to let his dad pass away
In a recent episode of Lock Upp 2, Ram Kapoor had made a shocking revelation, saying that he helped his father in planning his death. Ram shared that his father was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer at the age of 63. Since cancer was inoperable, Ram’s father, Anil, underwent 18 sessions of chemotherapy, after which the cancer was almost gone.
Unfortunately, Anil was diagnosed with cancer once again. Although doctors were hopeful because he had responded well to treatment the first time, the Bade Achhe Lagte Hain actor said the situation was very different. Recalling the difficult phase, Ram shared that Anil was diagnosed with cancer for the second time during the COVID-19 pandemic when everything was under lockdown. Back then, Anil was in Singapore. Recalling what Anil said to him, Ram shared:
"He was in Singapore; it was COVID time. Unhone Gautami ko phone kiya aur use bola mujhe Ram se baat karni hai. Unhone decide kar liya tha ki 'I want to go.'"
Ram recalled how his father convinced him to help him plan his death. Recalling one of the most emotional moments of his life, Ram shared that his father was very direct and asked for his help. He also highlighted his initial reaction. Further, the Bade Achhe Lagte Hain actor mentioned that his father, Anil, made him promise that he would not leave him alone in his final moments and wanted him by his side in the ICU. Ram was quoted as saying:
"Unhone point blank mereko bola 'Can you help me in dying?' Obviously my reaction was the same as anybody else. I'm like 'What the fuck are you talking about?' But he managed to convince me that main agar nahi krunga to wo akele marenge. Ham dono bharti hue andar, kisi ko nahi pata tha that no treatment was happening."
Ram added that his father, Anil, did not want anyone to cry at his funeral and had asked to be buried on the very day he passed away. However, Ram’s heartbreaking decision to let his father pass away distanced him from his mother and sister. Ram shared that it has been five years since his mom and sister have not talked to him for the following. Despite the emotional consequences, Ram believed that it was the 'best thing' a son could have done for his father. In his words:
"My mother and my sister still don't talk to me. It's been more than 5 years. Everyone lives like a king. He died like a king."

Anil 'Billy' Kapoor hailed from a Punjabi family. He was the second of the four children in his family. He completed his graduation in English Literature from St. Stephen’s College, Delhi University. Later, he pursued an MBA at IIM Ahmedabad. He began his professional career in advertising and worked at a British multinational company, Boots, handling brands including Strepsils and Coldarin. After working with Boots as a Marketing Director, Anil joined Ulka Advertising in 1988, which was running at a loss. Eventually, he took control of the agency and changed its fortune forever.
