Just when everybody was elated seeing Priyanka Chopra and Nick Jonas in their wedding avatars, a s***load article published by The Cut spoilt everyone’s ecstatic mood by calling her a ‘global scam artist’ and accusing her of 'defrauding' Nick Jonas into a 'fraudulent' relationship. Only when netizens started pointing out the sexist and racist nature of the article, The Cut took down the piece from their website. And now, Priyanka Chopra’s mother Madhu Chopra has come out in the open and commented on the entire brouhaha. As per a Mid-Day report, she said, “It is a happy phase for our family, and we don't want to be disturbed by such idiotic things. I am happy that my daughter is married to someone she truly loves. I don't want to give publicity to those fools. There are some donkeys who do anything they feel like, but their actions don't affect us.”
Priyanka herself had commented earlier on the same and said, “I don’t even want to react or comment. It’s not even in my stratosphere. I’m in a happy place at this moment. This kind of random things can’t disturb it.”
Nick’s brother, Joe Jonas also lashed out at the publication house and tweeted, “This is disgusting. @TheCut should be ashamed to have someone write such evil words. What Nick & Pri have is Beautiful Love. Thank u, Next.”
Game of Thrones star and Joe’s fiancée, Sophie Turner also voiced her opinion on Twitter. She tweeted, “This is wildly inappropriate. Very disappointed that The Cut would give anyone a platform to spew such bullshit.”
Many Bollywood celebrities also condemned The Cut’s article. Sonam Kapoor Ahuja took to her Twitter handle and wrote, “For a publication that “shows women’s what they are made of” @TheCut has a lot to answer for. The article on @priyankachopra was sexist, racist and disgusting. Also it’s written by a woman which is so sad. It reeks of envy and bitterness. @mRiah shame on you.”
Arjun Kapoor tweeted, “know @priyankachopra personally & I’m fairly certain @nickjonas hasn’t been kidnapped & forced into a union of love... @NYMag u have an unhappy opinionated racist frustrated journalist who’s gone on n on about 2 people who by choice have gotten married. Tacky n uncouth writing.”
For the uninitiated ones, it must be mentioned here that Priyanka and Nick got married on December 1-2, 2018 at Umaid Bhawan, Jodhpur in two wedding ceremonies- first, a white Christian wedding and second, a Hindu wedding. The couple has sold their official wedding pictures to the internationally reputed People magazine. As soon as the photos surfaced on People.com and social media, likes, retweets and a spree of comments followed. Priyanka also gave an interview to the People.com and shared an emotional moment from her wedding. The Quantico star said, “It was all tears. All tears. I could not hold it in. I think I was nervous and scared. But as soon as the curtains opened, and I saw his face it was just like everything settled and I knew I was making the best decision of my life.”
PeeCee’s mom, Madhu Chopra told the media persons, “It was an emotional moment for everyone. I broke into tears when I saw Priyanka dressed as a bride. I had waited for this day all my life.” Adding further about the white wedding, “I was at a loss of words. When I saw Priyanka, I couldn’t control my emotions. The white gown was so beautiful.
