In a piece of heartbreaking news, Prateek Yadav, who was the stepbrother of Samajwadi Party chief, Akhilesh Yadav, passed away on May 13, 2026. He was 38 and married to Aparna Yadav. Reportedly, doctors were sent to his residence at 5.00 am on May 13, 2026 as his health deteriorated. He was taken to the hospital and by 5.55 a.m. was declared dead. The last rite details of Prateek Yadav have now emerged.

Mulayam Singh Yadav's son, Prateek Yadav's last rites to take place in Lucknow

A report by the Hindustan Times revealed that the last rites of Mulayam Singh Yadav's son, Prateek Yadav, will take place at 12.30 p.m. on May 14, 2026 at Pipra Ghat in Lucknow. The report further mentioned that his autopsy report revealed cardiopulmonary collapse, which is also known as sudden cardiac arrest. The cause of death was determined by this. The report also revealed that Prateek had excessive pulmonary thromboembolism. Earlier, the hospital authorities had said that Prateek's exact cause of demise would be known after the post-mortem. He was later taken to Civil Hospital. Earlier, some reports claimed that Prateek's demise had taken place under suspicious circumstances.

A report by the publication also revealed that there were bruises on Prateek's body and that his demise could have been caused by poison. Prateek had his own gym, was completely healthy, and his sudden death before coming to the hospital raised these questions. Prateek Yadav stayed away from active politics. He was the son of the late Mulayam Singh Yadav and Sadhna Gupta. Prateek was involved in business ventures in real estate and the fitness industry. Prateek had studied at the University of Leeds in the United Kingdom and also owned a gym in Lucknow called The Fitness Planet. Prateek was also a part of animal welfare activities via an organisation called Jeev Ashray that worked for the rescue and care of stray dogs.

Prateek Yadav's doctor reveals he was being treated for high blood pressure and hypertension

Dr Ruchita Sharma was the one Prateek Yadav used to visit and was a long-standing patient. She was treating Prateek for a while for his high blood pressure and hypertension issues. She revealed that a few days ago, he was admitted here after developing a pulmonary embolism — a condition in which a blood clot travels into and lodges within the arteries. Due to the blockage in his lungs, his heart function was adversely affected.

Prateek had also presented a few days prior, complaining of shortness of breath and related respiratory issues, at which point he was diagnosed with a pulmonary embolism. The condition is inherently critical and carries significant risk. Prateek's doctor revealed that he was already on blood thinners; he was fully aware of his medical issues and took his blood pressure medication regularly.

Prateek Yadav's stepbrother, Akhilesh Yadav, revealed to the media that, from a young age, Prateek was very conscious of his health and wanted to move forward in his life. Akhilesh shared that Prateek was an extremely good boy who wanted to achieve things in life with his own hard work. He shared that acting according to the law and to what the full family decides. In his words:

"I cannot change today’s reality. I had met him a few months ago, around two months back. Even at that time, I had told him to take care of his health and focus on expanding his business. Sometimes, financial losses in business can break a person emotionally. He is no longer among us. We will do whatever the family decides.”
