Model and actress, Poonam Pandey’s sudden death news surprised everyone on the morning of February 2, 2024, when a note posted on her IG handle by her team confirmed of it. The cause of her death was mentioned as cervical cancer. Interestingly, a strong section of her friends, fans and colleagues were in disbelief, since the diva had worked with most of them just a day or two back. In fact, some even claimed that the news of her death was nothing more than a publicity stunt, a hoax that was willingly circulated.
Amidst all the row which had been happening over the news of her demise, on February 3, 2024, Poonam Pandey dropped a video of herself, where she claimed that she was alive and all well. Wearing a blue cardigan top with denims, Poonam remarked that such a news about her death was made to create a public awareness about many women, who passed away due to undiagnosed cervical cancer. She also penned a note, which summed up the cause behind pulling off such a news, which can be read as:
“I feel compelled to share something significant with you all - I am here, alive. Cervical Cancer didn’t claim me, but tragically, it has claimed the lives of thousands of women who stemmed from a lack of knowledge on how to tackle this disease. Unlike some other cancers, Cervical Cancer is entirely preventable. The key lies in the HPV vaccine and early detection tests. We have the means to ensure no one loses their life to this disease. Let’s empower one another with critical awareness and ensure every woman is informed about the steps to take. Visit the link in the bio to delve deeper into what can be done. Together, let’s strive to put an end to the devastating impact of the disease and bring.”

As soon as the video surfaced, internet was taken by storm, as people were shelled in disbelief. While to some extent they were happy to see Poonam Pandey being alive and in good health, nevertheless they were also shocked and horrified by the publicity stunt she managed to pull off about her death. Taking to the comment section of her post, several celebrities and fans of the actress penned strong reactions, as they shamed her for lying about such a sensitive matter.
Well, the news of Poonam Pandey’s demise had indeed created a stir on the internet in no time, since nearly everyone disbelieved it. Many claimed that the actress had a tendency to pull of unbelievable publicity stunts, and this too was the same. In fact, Poonam’s ex-husband, Sam Bombay also took to his IG handle on February 3, 2024, where he expressed his disbelief on such news. Highlighting how something definitely appeared to be amiss, he wrote:
“I have not been able to fully process this. It certainly can't be true. And I don't want to believe it is. I'll compose my emotions and post something shortly. Please pray for Poonam. I thank everyone for their condolences but I'll request you to assess and ask questions. Something doesn't feel right.”
Earlier, a report by India Today claimed that after Poonam Pandey’s team made the announcement of her death on social media, it was the diva’s family who went untraceable soon after it. According to Poonam’s manager, the actress’ sister who was the first one to break the news switched off her phone soon after. In fact, Poonam’s home in Kanpur stood dead silent, with the security guard allowing no body to enter the premises. It surely added all the more suspicion about Poonam Pandey’s death.

Soon after her death news broke out like wildfire, an interview of Poonam Pandey was shared by Instant Bollywood on their IG handle, wherein the diva talked about her liking for surprises. She could be seen teasing her fans about an upcoming big surprise, details of which she would be sharing with her fans soon enough. In her words:
“Aapke saamne ek itna bada news aane wala hai. Mujhe bahut accha lagta hai logo ko surprise karna. Jab voh samajhte hai yeh sudhar rahi hai, tab mujhe surprise karna aur bhi accha lagta hai. Toh ek bahut hi bada news aapke saamne bahut jaldi aane wala hai."
