In entertainment industries worldwide, sometimes the reel couple’s chemistry touches the hearts of the audience so much that they start to root for a real romance. This is a common phenomenon in Hallyu, where fans speculate that the on-set chemistry between the two lead characters has the possibility of blossoming into a romantic relationship in reality.
The latest K-drama couple, who got intertwined in such rumours is The Story Of Park’s Marriage Contract’s lead couple, Bae In Hyuk and Lee Se Young. Their impeccable on-screen chemistry, coupled with their camaraderie at an awards show last year, fuelled the rumours of a budding romantic relationship between the lead couple.

Recently, in an interview with The Korea Times, the South Korean actor, Bae In Hyuk reacted to the dating rumours. The actor who played ‘Kang Tae Ha’ in the same K-drama, recalled that he found it hilarious when people actually believed he was dating his co-star, Lee Se Young, who portrayed ‘Park Yeon Woo’. He further shared that he felt positive about the fact that his on-screen chemistry with the actress must really be very engaging that’s why people must have thought they were a thing in real life. In Hyuk said:
"I thought it was hilarious. I didn’t know until I got a text asking if it’s real. I thought it happened because people liked our chemistry, especially during the awards ceremony. I feel the dating rumours mean that many people enjoyed (the series). Seeing them view us positively outside the drama, I feel like we succeeded in immersing them in the characters of Tae Ha and Yeon Woo.”
Further in the conversation, Bae In talked about his experience of working in the drama. He spoke at length about the challenges he faced during the shooting and how he overcame those. The actor also disclosed that previously he portrayed the roles of young adults or college students, hence, his role as ‘Kang Tae Ha’ was difficult. He added:
"For me, the series was mentally challenging. Most of my previous roles were as college students or young adults, but this was the first time I had to depict a mature adult character. I spent a lot of time contemplating and taking on this challenge. But in hindsight, it will be remembered as a meaningful work that wrapped up successfully.”

Bae In Hyuk also praised his co-star and his ladylove in the drama, Lee Se Young. He revealed that the actress helped him a lot during the historical scenes, as she has previously worked in period dramas. He expressed towards his co-star from her guidance during the scenes. Bae mentioned:
"Historical settings are different, so Lee gave me a lot of advice to help me understand them. Such settings require a different posture, speech, and gestures, so I picked up a lot of details from her. I understood how she could be in the position she is now since starting as a child actor. It has been a valuable experience."
For the unversed, The Story Of Park’s Marriage Contract is a fantasy romantic comedy series based on a web novel of the same name. The plot revolves around a girl from the 19th century, ‘Park Yeon Woo’ (played by Lee Se Young), who tragically lost her husband on their wedding day. Just after her husband's death, she is abducted and thrown into a well. Yeon Woo wakes up in the year 2023 and meets ‘Kang Tae Ha’ (played by Bae In Hyuk), the heir to a business conglomerate, who shares both the appearance and name of her late husband. As the plot progresses, their destinies become intertwined when Kang proposes a contract marriage to Park. The 12-episode K-drama ended with a viewership rating of 9.3 per cent on January 6, 2024.
