Pankaj Tripathi is one of the most phenomenal actors of his generation in Bollywood. After enthralling the audiences with some of his most exceptional performances, the actor bagged the prestigious National Film Award for his performance in the film, Mimi. Coming from an utterly humble background with no prior connection with the film world, Pankaj marked his own path in the competitive industry and has mesmerised the audiences with the versatility of his films.
In an interaction with India Today, Pankaj Tripathi reflected on his National Award win. He talked about other fellow actors like Ashish Vidyarthi and Manoj Bajpayee having won it before him and creating a popularity for the same. Sharing how these senior actors instilled him a sense to achieve such an award for himself as well, Pankaj said:
"It was a dream, probably the only achievement I desired. Ashish Vidyarthi had won it when I was in the National School of Drama, and it had become the talk of the town then. Also, Manoj bhaiya (Manoj Bajpayee) won it for 'Pinjar' and we realised how it was a big feat. That's when I too aspired that I wish I can achieve this honour.”

In the following segment of the interview, Pankaj talked about his parents, and shared how neither of them ever got an inkling about him achieving so much of success as an actor. For the unversed, the actor lost his father right before his National Award win, and now only has his mother surviving beside him. Talking about how his mother still doesn’t know about his fame as an actor, Pankaj shared:
“My mother was here recently with me and forced us to send her back. She wants that simple life. The other day, she asked me that someone had come home asking about me, and wondered if I was too popular. She still doesn't know what I do, and I don't even find the reason that she has to," he added.”
Previously, in an interaction with Rajat Sharma on the show, Aap Ki Adalat, Pankaj Tripathi talked about his childhood and recalled the time when he used to learn swimming in rivers in his hometown in Bihar. He mentioned how a few of his boyish friends tricked him to believe that in order to learn swimming, he needed to eat the insects that floated on the top surface of the water. As a kid himself, Pankaj believed them and ended up eating those insects. However, he remarked not having fallen ill soon after that.

Previously in September 2023, Pankaj Tripathi initiated the inauguration of a school library in fond memory of his father, Banaras Tiwari whom he had lost just a few months prior to it. While speaking to the Hindustan Times, the actor mentioned that the entire idea was his family's decision, and that the project, aimed to improve the school's overall infrastructure, which included the installation of eco-friendly solar energy panels. In his words:
“We had already adopted a school, and improved the infrastructure. This time we thought there should be books available to the kids. I and my elder brother thought of it, and asked the students. My father placed a lot of importance on education."
