Euphoria fans are just stunned as the show has just turned into a violent, Quentin Tarantino-style crime thriller in the third season by the killing of one of the main characters, 'Nate Jacobs', played by Jacob Elordi. 'Nate Jacobs' has been one of the major characters in Euphoria, and in the 7th episode of the third season, he was seen inside a coffin, which was done from a revenge motive by a local businessman, 'Naz'.
'Nate's wife, 'Cassie', was asked for USD 1 million within 72 hours to save him, and oxygen supply was being provided through a pipe. The plan unravels when a snake enters through the pipe and finally bites 'Nate'. In the scene 'Cassie', along with 'Maddy' dug up the coffin, wherein they found him in a 'horrific' situation with a snake rattling on his severely wounded body. But why did Euphoria just kill 'Nate' off? Recently, it was revealed as well. As well as, Jacob Elordi ended up detailing the horrifying scene, which he felt to be 'cool'. So, let's just have a look!
In a post-show recap with HBO, Jacob Elordi spoke about filming the claustrophobic scene. He said that 'Nate' is someone who had many dark choices throughout the show, and thus, the final scene was kind of a cool way to let go. While the scene left the viewers feeling claustrophobic, Jacob Elordi felt very peaceful inside a coffin. He further added that his shoulders were touching the side and they couldn't move.
In the same interview, Jacob spoke about Sam Levinson’s approach to put realism in the show, which required him to work with a snake. Speaking about the same, Jacob said that the snakes were actually rattling; however, the actor felt that the snakes were really cuddly and were sleeping, and it was he who nudged the snake to come up on him. Jacob could be quoted as saying:
"Nate was someone who has made so many mistakes and made so many dark choices. It’s cool to see it all come to what it’s come to. It was really nice, actually – it was quite peaceful in there. My shoulders were touching the side and they couldn’t move my arms, then they would drill the lid on it and it would get dark. Snakes were rattling, which was really alarming when you are locked in a box. He was a sleepy snake. I had to kind of nudge him to get him to come up.”
Jacob Elordi's character was one of the significant ones in Euphoria. As his character was killed off, he was asked about his experience on the show, to which he said that this show has been a massive part of his life, not just his career. He further added that he is someone who acts to experience different things. Earlier, speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Jacob said that while playing 'Nate Jacobs' he learned more about empathy and patience, which is not that common with a character like him.

As soon as 'Nate Jacobs's death left people shocked, they have been wondering what could possibly be the reason that he was killed off. Speaking about the same, in an interview with Esquire, Sam Levinson revealed the real reason. He said that he knows what the audience wants in terms of karma or justice, and he wants to provide it in such a brutal way that it leaves the audience confused over whether or not they actually wanted it. He said:
"And with that in mind, I always think, ‘Well, how can I give it to them?’ How can I give them what they want, but make it so horrific and anxiety-inducing that by the time it happens, the audience isn’t so sure they wanted it?”
For the unversed, the particular scene was inspired by Levinson's favourite movie, The Candy Snatchers. To mention, if the rattlesnake had bitten the actor or anyone present there, they would have about an hour to die, and the hospital from where they were shooting was one and a half hours away. So, one could understand the gravity of such a scene. Levinson said:
"When we were shooting with the rattlesnakes out in Lancaster, [California], they said, ‘If you get bitten by a rattlesnake, you have about an hour before you die. And unfortunately, the nearest hospital’s an hour and a half away. So… don’t get bitten by our rattlesnake.”
