NASA's Artemis II mission, which is carrying four crew members, Victor Glover, Jeremy Hansen, Reid Wiseman and Christina Koch has been dominating the headlines for a long time. For the unversed, the mission was launched on April 1, 2026, with the aim to travel to the far side of the Moon and back. Will NASA launch the Artemis III mission?

According to the official page of NASA, Artemis III mission has already been scheduled for sometime in 2027. While much details about the mission and the crew have not been revealed; however, reports suggest that it will aim at humans travelling to the moon. Reportedly, it will serve as a crucial test mission in low Earth orbit. The main goal will be to test all the systems that will be needed in future Moon landing. A 2023 report by NASA also claims that they will send humans to explore the region near the lunar South Pole through Artemis III.

Reportedly, during the mission, the astronauts will test all the key operations needed for the future. According to the same report by NASA, Artemis III crew will take off into space from the Orion spacecraft. The launch is expected to take place from Kennedy Space Center, in Florida. It is worth mentioning that Artemis III will involve commercial partners like SpaceX and Blue Origin. If reports are to be believed, with this mission, NASA will be able to avoid all the possible risks that could happen in future missions.

Artemis II broke the record of Apollo 13

For the unversed, Artemis II marked a major milestone. After the success of Apollo 13, which happened in 1970, Artemis II was the first crewed mission. It is worth mentioning that Artemis II was launched on April 1, 2026, and was designed as a 10-day mission. According to reports, it even surpassed the distance record which was set by Apollo 13. For the unversed, Apollo 13 had travelled 248,655 miles from Earth, whereas the Artemis II travelled approximately 252,756 miles.

Talking about the mission, a few reports claim that the rocket first entered Earth orbit and later headed towards the Moon. Eventually, it travelled more in space before entering the Moon's sphere. After entering the same, they captured high-resolution images of the Moon. Reportedly, the crew also witnessed a solar eclipse. According to a report by Mashable India, the average salary of a NASA astronaut is around USD 152,258, which is nearly Rs 1.4 crore per year. They are not paid any extra money for overtime. However, they enjoy multiple benefits, like health insurance and more.

The four crew members of Artemis II

The Artemis II mission was launched with four crew members, Victor Glover, the pilot of the spacecraft, Reid Wiseman, the commander of the mission and two mission specialists, Jeremy Hansen and Christina Koch. If reports are believed to be true, Reid Wiseman previously served as a flight engineer on the International Space Station. In his personal life, he was married to Carroll Taylor Wiseman, who tragically passed away in 2020, due to cancer. He has two children.

On the other hand, Victor Glover, he was in the U.S. Navy as a pilot before joining NASA. Reportedly, he was also a part of the SpaceX Crew-1 mission. Since the past two decades, he has been married to Dionna and they have four daughters. Coming to the mission specialists, Christina Koch is an American engineer and NASA astronaut, who once held the record for the longest single spaceflight by a woman. She is married to Robert Koch. Meanwhile, Jeremy Hansen is the first Canadian to travel to the Moon. In his personal life, he has been married to Catherine Hansen since the past 23 years. The couple also shares three children.
