Artemis II Mission Crew Salary Revealed, How Much Did Reid, Victor, Christina And Jeremy Earn?

Four astronauts, Reid Wiseman, Victor Glover, Christina Koch and Jeremy Hansen are currently on the Artemis II mission, which is expected to be a 10-day journey to the far side of the Moon and back. It is worth mentioning that something like this has not been done since Apollo 13, which was launched in 1970. Artemis II mission breaks the record set by Apollo 13

The Artemis II mission has marked a major milestone in modern space. It has even surpassed the distance record which was set by Apollo 13. For those who do not know, the rocket was launched on April 1, 2026. It is the first crewed mission after Apollo 13 and was designed as a 10-day mission. 

Talking about the mission, initially, the rocket entered Earth orbit and later headed towards the Moon. Later, the spacecraft travelled more in space before entering the Moon's sphere. After entering the same, they captured high-resolution images of the Moon. Reportedly, the crew also witnessed a solar eclipse. 

If reports are to be believed, Apollo 13, which was launched decades ago, was successful in travelling approximately 248,655 miles from Earth, whereas the Artemis II managed to travel approximately 252,756 miles. With this, Artemis II broke the record of Apollo 13 as it travelled 4,000 miles more, making the crew the farthest humans have ever been from Earth.

The salary of the Artemis II crew members

For those who are curious to know the salary of the crew members, a report by Mashable claims that astronauts are not given any extra payment for space missions, rather they receive a fixed yearly salary. The average salary of a NASA astronaut is around USD 152,258, which is nearly Rs 1.4 crore per year. It is worth mentioning that military astronauts, who are still part of the military, get their salary from the military system. 

Reportedly, astronauts are not given any payment for overtime. However, in addition to the salary, astronauts get some strong benefits like health insurance, paid leave, retirement plans, training facilities, travel support and more. According to the same report by Mashable, they are also eligible for free or subsidised parking and transit assistance, membership in various Federal Credit unions and scholarship programs for NASA dependents.

Talking about the crew members, Reid Wiseman is the Commander of Artemis II, who is leading the crew in the mission. Reportedly, he previously served as a flight engineer on the International Space Station. In his personal life, he was married to Carroll Taylor Wiseman, who passed away in 2020, due to cancer. Victor Glover is the pilot of the spacecraft. Earlier, he was in the U.S. Navy as a pilot. He has also been a part of the SpaceX Crew-1 mission. He has been married to Dionna for more than two decades and they have four daughters together. 

Christina Koch is an American engineer and NASA astronaut, who is a part of the crew as a mission specialist. The 47-year-old previously held the record for the longest single spaceflight by a woman, spending 328 consecutive days aboard the International Space Station. She is married to Robert Koch. Reportedly, the two met at a Halloween party and later tied the knot. Lastly, Jeremy Hansen, who is one of the crew members, is also a mission specialist. He is the first Canadian to travel to the Moon as a mission specialist on NASA's Artemis II mission. In his personal life, he has been married to Catherine Hansen since the past 23 years. The couple also shares three children.
