Add BollywoodShaadis on GoogleFormer rapper and actor Michael Tyler, better known as Mystikal, is back in the headlines after his recent 20-year jail sentence. The rapper pleaded guilty to third-degree rape and was officially sentenced in June 2026 after a plea deal was reached in connection with an incident that took place at his Louisiana home in 2022. Now, more details surrounding Mystikal’s alleged crime have been revealed.
The criminal case stemmed from an incident that took place in July 2022 at Mystikal's residence in Prairieville, Louisiana. According to court records, the rapper was initially charged with first-degree rape (that could lead to a life sentence if found guilty). According to court documents, the incident began when a woman visited Mystikal's home, where prosecutors allege he accused her of stealing money before the situation escalated into a violent assault.

In new information from the lawsuit reported by TMZ, the victim cited a July 2022 incident when what started as an amicable discussion turned violent after the rapper came out of the bathroom. The woman alleges that Mystikal accused her of stealing money, and the confrontation took a drastic turn when the rapper allegedly started choking her, leaving her with bruises, scrapes, a laceration, hair loss, and a broken fingernail.

The lawsuit further alleges that he forced her to undress, spat on her, threw rubbing alcohol at her, and threatened her with scissors. The woman claims Mystikal later had her pray with him before allegedly sexually assaulting her. The court document says "[he] had her kneel by his bedside and he knelt beside her." She also alleges that he forced her to search for the missing money and send him USD 150 through a payment app.

On June 12, 2026, Mystikal was handed down a 20-year prison sentence without parole based on multiple severe criminal charges throughout his life. However, a civil lawsuit filed by the same woman remains active. The victim alleges that she suffered physical injuries and emotional distress as a result of the encounter.

This is not the only time that Mystikal's name has been involved in serious legal battles. More than two decades earlier, the rapper found himself at the center of another major legal scandal involving his former hairstylist. In 2003, Mystikal pleaded guilty to sexual battery and extortion, resulting in a six-year prison sentence and mandatory registration as a sex offender. His legal troubles continued behind bars when he was convicted on federal tax-related charges for failing to file income tax returns.

After serving six years, Mystikal was released from a Louisiana prison in 2010. However, his freedom came with strict conditions, including five years of probation and continued registration as a sex offender in the state. In October 2016, Mystikal was again accused of sexual assault at a casino in Shreveport, where he was charged with first-degree rape and second-degree kidnapping. He was again arrested in 2017 and charged with first-degree rape and second-degree kidnapping in another case.
Michael Tyler rose to fame in the late 1990s and early 2000s with hits like Shake Ya Ass, Danger (Been So Long), and Bouncin' Back (Bumpin' Me Against the Wall). Before the controversies, he was revered as one of the biggest stars of Southern hip hop and earned a loyal fan base with his energetic performances. However, with repeated run-ins with the law on serious criminal charges, much of the attention surrounding the rapper is now focused on his crimes.

After his sentencing for the 2022 incident, Mystikal's son, Million Tyler, spoke out about the situation, saying he felt "bad for the victim as well as my father...It's hard for both parties."
Mystikal has been held without bond at the Ascension Parish Jail since his arrest in 2022. What is your take on his sentencing?
