Moushumi Chatterjee was one of the most glamorous actresses of yesteryear Bollywood. She was known for her supreme acting mettle, gorgeous beauty and unapologetic voice of opinion on matters. Despite having a short career span, she has been a part of a few classic films such as Manzil, Ghar Ek Mandir, Anuraag, and Kachhe Dhaage, among others. And in a recent conversation, Moushumi went back to the good old days and revealed some fond and hilarious anecdotes about shooting one of her iconic songs, Rim Jhim Gire Sawaan, alongside Amitabh Bachchan.
Moushumi Chatterjee recently graced The Kapil Sharma Show and shared some fond memories and anecdotes from her acting days. During the same conversation, she revealed some unheard anecdotes about shooting her iconic rain song, Rim Jhim Gire Sawaan, from the film, Manzil, which featured her and Amitabh Bachchan walking down the streets of a rain-soaked Bombay. Moushumi recalled how the two had to brave the heavy rain during the shooting of the song. Moreover, she added how despite her height difference with her co-star, Amitabh Bachchan, the latter took smaller steps to match up with her. Heaping praises on Amitabh, Moushumi mentioned:
“He is a very intelligent man. He knew that he has to match up with me. So, he was taking small steps. And when I would realise that I have been left behind, I will go a little farther as then the camera would follow me and leave Bachchan.”

Moving further in the same conversation, Moushumi revealed that back then, they had to shoot in a actual rain, which would pour down for hours and quite heavily. As a result, there was a serious problem in making head or tail out of the filmmaker’s instructions, as the visibility would be low. Moushumi also mentioned how Amitabh Bachchan would make fun of her since her makeup would smudge due to the rain. In her words:
“The rain was so fierce, we couldn’t even hear the music. They showed us something like a handkerchief, which meant the song started. Then, they signalled ‘cut’ with the same handkerchief. We faced the real rains in Mumbai. It was Basu Chatterjee’s film and I remember it even today, waterproof liners were not there back then. So, after a shot, I saw everyone laughing, including the hero. My liner had smudged in the rain and had mixed with the blush of my cheeks. Also, after going home, I noticed all the green colour of my saree got imprinted on my body after getting drenched in rain for so long.”
In another segment of her stint at The Kapil Sharma Show, Moushumi Chatterjee took a jibe at modern-day actors, especially the heroes. She compared these new heroes with those from her times and took a dig at them by emphasising how they needed to be constantly reminded that they are ‘heroes’ in the true sense. She added that no male actor would need this kind of validation earlier, and their works would be a befitting proof of their talents.

Moushumi has been one such actress who has been known for her no-nonsense and no-compromise ideology. However, such outlook of hers has often led her to trouble, since she would be easily replaced in films as she might have offended the film’s lead actor with her opinions. Speaking about the same in an earlier interview with Lehren Retro, Moushumi recalled how people advised her to quit such a behaviour, while she, on the other hand, was never much interested in buttering others for her benefit.
