According to a report by India.com, Salim Khan's late father, Abdul Rashid Khan was a senior police officer during the British rule in India. Reportedly, he served in the Indian Imperial Police. For the unversed, it was the law-enforcement body in India before the country got independence. Eventually, Abdul Rashid Khan also became the Deputy Inspector General in Indore. Allegedly, the post of DIG is considered to be the highest position someone could achieve during that era.
According to the book, Being Salman, written by Jasim Khan, Abdul Rashid Khan belonged to a Pashtun family with roots in Yusufzai tribe. Reportedly, his family was first in the Swat Valley region and later came to India, when Abdul was settled in Indore as the DIG. It is also worth mentioning that Abdul Rashid Khan was married to Siddiqa Bano Khan.
It is worth mentioning that much-celebrated screenwriter, Salim Khan lost both his parents at a very young age. If reports are to be believed, Salim Khan was born in 1935, in Indore, Madhya Pradesh. He attended Holkar Science College. According to the same report by India.com, Salim Khan was only nine years old when he lost his mother, Siddiqa Bano Khan. She died of tuberculosis. On the other hand, Salim Khan's father, Abdul Rashid Khan passed away when Salim Khan was only 14 years old. After his parents passed away, it was Salim Khan’s elder brother, who took care of him.

According to the same report, Salim Khan was raised by his elder brother. However, it is worth mentioning not much details are available about Salim Khan’s brother, not even his name. If reports are to be believed, Salim's father’s inheritance helped support his upbringing. His father even owned a car.

In his personal life, Salim Khan was first married to Salma Khan in 1964. The two share four children, Salman, Arbaaz, Sohail and Alvira. In 1981, Salim Khan tied the knot with veteran actress, Helen Richardson. Later, the two adopted a daughter, Arpita Khan. As of 2026, Salim Khan is a grandfather to children of Arbaaz and Sohail.
