When Salim Khan's Second Wife, Helen Confessed About Hiding Face From His First Wife, Salma, 'See..'

Salim Khan and Helen’s relationship was once the talk of the town. When the couple tied the knot, the renowned screenwriter, Salim, was already married to Salma Khan, the mother of his four children, Salman Khan, Sohail Khan, Arbaaz Khan and Alvira Khan Agnihotri. While Salim is a well-known screenwriter and is best known for his Hindi classics, including Sholay, Seeta Aur Geeta, Zanjeer and Deewar, Helen has won hearts with her strong screen presence. 

Helen first met Salim in 1963 on the sets of Kabli Khan. In the film, she played the female lead, and Salim played the role of a villain. However, she didn’t notice him back then. Years later, in 1966, the prolific actress noticed the screenwriter while watching their film, Teesri Manzil. However, do you know that once Helen confessed that she used to hide her face from Salim Khan’s first wife, Salma, when she began dating him? Yes, you read it right. During an episode of Arbaaz Khan's chat show, The Invincibles, Helen opened up about the time when she was dating the screenwriter. Helen confessed that she used to hide her face from Salim’s first wife, Salma, when she used to pass Bandstand. She did this out of respect for her. Recalling the moment, Helen said: 

"In the beginning, what I used to do, you know, when I used to pass Bandstand, and I would know sometimes Mummy [Salma] is standing in the balcony, I would duck right down so she would not see me and think that the car would be empty near your house. I used to keep her respect so much."

When Helen shared that it was destiny that brought her closer to the Khan family

During the same conversation, Helen shared that after Salim offered her a role in a film, they became friends. The actress acknowledged Salma's struggles and called her 'nice'. She highlighted that she didn’t want Salim to get separated from his family. She was quoted as saying:

"He (Salim) gave me a role in a film. We became friends, Mummy was very nice; it must have been tough for your mom, she must have gone through a lot at that time. I think destiny brought me close to all of you, and I must thank all of you. I never ever wanted a separation from the family for Salim."

When Salim was establishing his foothold in the industry, Helen was already a star. Just like others, Salim also couldn't resist Helen's charm. The duo came closer when they started collaborating on many projects. Earlier, in an interview with Pinkvilla, Salim Khan opened up about his relationship with Helen. The renowned screenwriter shared that he couldn’t say when he fell in love with her. However, after spending a long time together, he decided to move forward with their relationship, as many labelled their relationship as an affair. The couple tied the knot in 1980. Later, they adopted a girl named Arpita. He was quoted as saying:

"I won't be able to say when exactly I fell in love with her or decided to marry her. After seeing her for quite a long time we decided to honour our relationship. We got married in 1980."
