Meet Lindsey Graham's surviving family
71-year-old US Senator Lindsey Graham grew up in a working-class family in Central, South Carolina. His parents were owners of a bar. In his memoir, My Story: Lindsey Graham, the US Senator mentioned that they lived in the rooms behind the bar for a time before moving into a house next door. Lindsey was just 20 and his sister, Darline, was 11, when their mother passed away. 15 months after their mother’s death, their father also passed away.
After their parents’ deaths, Lindsey adopted his sister so that his baby sister could receive his military benefits. She is his only immediate survivor. Darline Graham Nordone is the younger sister of Lindsey. Although she has largely stayed away from politics, she has been a familiar face within Graham’s personal and political circles for decades. She does not have a formal political career and has never served in elected office. She has occasionally appeared alongside her elder brother during important events.

During the 71-year-old US Senator’s 2015 presidential campaign, Darline attended many campaign events and interviews in order to help voters understand the senator’s personal background and family history. Darline’s involvement during this phase has primarily been supportive rather than political. In an interview with The New York Times, Darline confessed how her eldest brother became a guardian after their parents’ death. In her words:
"Lindsey was always my parent."
On May 4, 2026, Lindsey took to his Instagram handle and shared a conversation in which Darline opened up about her upbringing. She shared how her brother, Lindsey, raised her. Sharing the video, Lindsey penned an emotional message for his sister. He stated that after their parents’ death, he had promised his sister to get through that together. Recalling the promise, Lindsey wrote:
"When I was young, my sister and I lost both of our parents far too soon. I promised her that no matter what, we would get through it together. It wasn’t easy, but I kept that promise. Today, I’m stronger because of what we endured, and I’m ready to fight for your family just like I fought for mine."
Netizens showered love on the post and expressed their grief over Lindsey’s passing. A user wrote, "Uncle Lindsey, you were one of the greatest men in the world. Your courage and leadership left a lasting impression on many people. May you rest in peace. You will never be forgotten by Iranians." Another user commented, "I will name my son Lindsey, in the hope that one day he will also care about defending and protecting people around the world. We, the people of Iran, are grateful for what you have done for us." Another comment can be read as:
"Not only the best brother but the best senator, people of the USA are proud of you as well as Iranians to stand on the right side of history, you are a hero in nature."
