Add BollywoodShaadis on GoogleUS Senator and Trump ally, Lindsey Graham breathed his last on July 11, 2026 at the age of 71. The politician's official X (formerly Twitter) page shared the sad news in an official statement. A day later, his medical reports confirmed his cause of death to be health complications. Additionally, details of a 911 call made during Lindsey's final moments also got publicised. Amid the outpouring of grief for Lindsey's passing, here's all about the fatal disease that led to the politician's demise.
Lindsey Graham's preliminary cause of death was revealed to be aortic dissection. On July 11, 2026, he faced severe chest pain, following which a 911 call was reportedly made to inform emergency services about a 70-something male facing cardiac arrest in the area where Lindsey lived. They did not mention the patient's name on the call, but the descriptions reportedly matched those of the US Senator.
In the audio recording of the call, they also could be heard requesting a forced entry into the ailing person's house. It probably suggested that Lindsey Graham was alone in his house or in his room when his health complications arose. Following that, the responders arrived at the location and wheeled Lindsey out on a gurney, as seen in images released by TMZ. It is unclear as to whether he was already deceased by the time the medical help arrived.
After Lindsey was taken to the hospital, a preliminary medical examination revealed that he died from "aortic dissection due to atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease." For the unversed, aortic dissection is a condition in which a tear occurs in the inner wall of the aorta (the body's main artery). It is life-threatening as it causes ripping chest or back pain and needs immediate medical attention. Notably, it is not the final cause of death, and the autopsy result could change after more tests are done.
Lindsey Graham's only publicly known ex is a woman named Sylvia. As for her identity, she was a German Lufthansa flight attendant of Hungarian descent, whom the US Senator met during his late 20s while living in Germany. Lindsey was stationed in the country during his US Air Force posting at Rhein-Main Air Base from 1984 to 1988. Lindsey and Sylvia became acquainted after the woman she was living with married Lindsey's roommate. It was pure fate that the two of them met and fell for each other.
Lindsey mentioned in his memoir, My Story, that his relationship with Sylvia became "serious quickly," and they almost got married. The politician strongly considered proposing to the flight attendant; however, that ultimately never happened. After a year-long courtship, the duo parted ways because of their different priorities. They didn't want to be in a long-distance relationship when Lindsey had to go back to him in South Carolina. She couldn't leave Germany for her ailing mother, and he would not leave his country, as his entire life was there. He stated:
"I am a South Carolina boy who needed to go home...Her mother was elderly, and I wasn't going to stay in Germany. I didn't think she wanted to come back to South Carolina."
After his split from Sylvia, Lindsey Graham realised that marriage was a difficult deal for him because of his political career and family circumstances. At age 21, he became the legal guardian of his 13-year-old sister, Darline, after both of their parents died within 15 months. Hence, he had to serve as the man of the house from early on. Additionally, he felt that "the right girl" didn't have time for him, and those who did weren't his perfect match. Hence, he remained single until his death at 71.
We extend our heartfelt condolences to Lindsey Graham's family as they deal with his loss.
