Brittney Griner is back in the headlines after she filed for divorce from her wife, Cherelle Griner. The duo had tied the knot in 2019 and even share a two-year-old son named Bash together. However, many might not be aware that before marrying Cherelle, Brittney was married to Glory Johnson. If you are curious to know more about Brittney's ex-wife, we have got you covered.

Who is Brittney Griner's ex-wife, Glory Johnson?

Just like Brittney Griner, her ex-wife, Glory Johnson, was also a WNBA player. While they had been married for a short amount of time, their relationship fell apart very quickly, resulting in a public and messy split. Brittney had later opened up about her marriage to Glory, stating that things between them started going south less than a month after their wedding. Surprisingly, Brittney even claimed that she decided to marry the Phoenix Mercury star without thinking of herself as gay.

The duo had announced their engagement back in 2014. According to reports, in April 2015, police had to go to her and Glory’s Arizona home following a domestic violence call. Brittney and Glory had engaged in a physical fight where they both sustained minor injuries. The former couple was also suspended for seven games by the WNBA after the police arrested them.

Soon after the domestic violence incident, the couple reconciled once again and tied the knot a few weeks later in May 2015. In June 2015, Glory announced that she was expecting a baby via IVF. The very next day after the announcement, Brittney filed for an annulment of their marriage.

Brittney had claimed that the only reason she married Glory despite her orientation was purely out of love. She said, “It wasn't about other people. It was about us.” She felt betrayed that their marriage came to an end in the way that it did, saying, “You can call me stupid for believing her, but I trusted this person.”

Brittney and Glory's relationship had soured even further when the WNBA star pleaded guilty to the domestic violence charges against her, while Glory did not. This led Brittney to undergo 26 weeks of counseling.

Later, Glory gave birth to twins prematurely in the same year. Announcing the news on Instagram, she wrote, "Babies Ava Simone and Solei Diem arrived on Monday! Born a little earlier than expected, I have no worries because these babies are fighters just like I am. We all know God makes no mistakes and by his grace, everything will work out for the greater good. We will continue to trust God as they are in his hands. Continue to keep us lifted because there is sooo much power in prayer!"

Glory also accused Brittney of not being involved in the IVF process. This resulted in her having to deal with serious financial hardship. Their divorce was ultimately finalized in June 2016.

Brittney Griner's divorce from second wife, Cherelle Griner

Brittney Griner filed for divorce from Cherelle Griner in Fulton County, Ga., on Thursday, July 30, 2026. As per the court documents, the couple had been separated since July 24, 2026. As of now, neither Brittney nor Cherelle had opened up about the divorce, although in her filing, the basketball player called their union “irretrievably broken.”

Brittney is also seeking joint legal custody of their son, Bash, in her filing. After the news of the divorce broke, a fan took to social media and wrote, "This is sad to me. I wondered how/why BG went to CT solo (although since her wife is a lawyer, I am sure it’s tough to move around every year) but this makes more sense now. Really sad, especially since a young kid is involved."

Another wrote, "Obviously we don’t know what went down, but I just wanna point out that BG is not in debt forever because her wife held her down while she was imprisoned. She can file for divorce."
