While the singer is enjoying the best phase of his life his past relationship with Taylor Swift has grabbed attention once again.
Well, Matt Healy once dated Taylor Swift. As per reports, they were linked in 2023, soon after the singer's breakup from Joe Alwyn. At that time, Matty attended a few of Taylor's Eras Tour concerts, which sparked dating rumours. However, their relationship lasted only for a few weeks. Matty Healy and Taylor Swift’s rumoured relationship was short-lived
Taylor Swift and Matty Healy dated each other for a brief amount of time. Even though they sparked dating buzz in 2023, not many know that the pair knew each other since 2014. As per a report by Harper's Bazaar, in 2014, Taylor had attended one of Matty's concerts with her friends. This is the first time they met backstage.
Later, Taylor was seen wearing a 1975 T-shirt, which sparked dating rumours. A few days later, Matty had an interview, during which he denied dating rumours. However, he confirmed that they met and even exchanged numbers. Addressing the dating buzz, he said, "As much as it’d be amazing for me if it did, unfortunately it didn’t."
During this time, Taylor and Matty Healy were often spotted together. They attended parties together and even collaborated on songs. Eventually, they lost touch around 2015-2016. Years later, in 2023, Taylor Swift made a surprise appearance onstage, during Matty's concert. This reignited dating rumours. A few months later, a source shared, "She and Matty are madly in love. It’s super-early days, but it feels right.They first dated, very briefly, almost ten years ago but timings just didn't work out."
Taylor Swift and Matty Healy parted ways due to their busy schedules
In June 2023, a source close to the couple had a chat with Entertainment Tonight, during which they confirmed the pair's breakup. As per the source, it was Taylor and Matty Healy's busy schedule that caused their breakup. The source was quoted as saying:
"Taylor and Matty broke up. They are both extremely busy and realised they’re not really compatible with each other. Taylor's friends want what’s best for her and aren’t shocked that their relationship fizzled out, since she recently got out of a long-term relationship."
It is worth mentioning that after they broke up, an old statement of Matty Healy resurfaced on social media, in which he revealed that he was scared to lose himself in a relationship. In a 2016 interview, he shared:
"Yeah. Absolutely. And the reason I mention that is because if I had gone out with Taylor Swift I would've been, 'Fucking hell! I am not being Taylor Swift's boyfriend.' You know, 'fuck that.' That's also a man thing, a de-masculinating, emasculating thing."

After their breakup, rumours were rife that Taylor Swift wrote most of her The Tortured Poets Department songs for Matty and dedicated it to their relationship. However, it is worth noting that the singer never confirmed this rumour. Amid that, in 2025, Matty's mother appeared on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen, during which she addressed the rumours and said:
"Obviously, on pain of death can I talk about that episode, but being her mother-in-law is a role that I am glad that I lost. Not that I have anything against her at all! It was just tricky. She, listen, you’re not allowed to say anything, and then she writes a whole album about it. Matty has taken it all in completely good grace."
