Mahendra Singh Dhoni is one such player in the history of Indian cricket, who has rightfully levelled up the sport to unparalleled heights. The former captain of the Indian Team as well as the current captain of the IPL team, Chennai Super Kings, Dhoni has created some historical moments on the field, such as the iconic World Cup win in 2011. Moreover, his track record has hailed him to be the only captain under whom the team has won the maximum number of ICC trophies, the WorldTwenty20 Cup and the 2016 Asia Cup. In his personal life, Captain Cool is happily married to his darling wife, Sakshi Dhoni and the duo is parents to their adorable munchkin, Ziva Dhoni.
Despite being a top-of-the-league cricketer who garners a lot of media attention for his game, Dhoni has always led a humble life and has kept his personal life low-key. While he has been married to his wife, Sakshi for years now, there was a particular phase in his personal life when he was deeply in love with a woman named Priyanka Jha. She was Dhoni’s first girlfriend, and the duo was pretty serious about their relationship. Interestingly, while much is not known about Priyanka, however, one can get a first-hand reference of the lady in the famous film biopic of the cricketer, M.S. Dhoni-The Untold Story in 2016. While Dhoni was played by late Sushant Singh Rajput, Priyanka Jha’s character was portrayed by the leading actress, Disha Patani.

According to the biopic, whose entire script was testified by Dhoni himself, Priyanka had crossed paths with the cricketer when the latter was still trying to establish himself in the Indian team in 2002. They were totally in love with one another, and were committed to end up together. But right at the time when they were heading for taking the plunge in their relationship, Dhoni was selected in the India ‘A’ squad for the tour of Zimbabwe and Kenya in 2003-2004. This gave a small pause to their relationship, but Dhoni had promised to return and fulfil his dream of forever with Priyanka.
Unfortunately, destiny had planned something entirely different for both Dhoni and Priyanka. Back in his first international tour, Dhoni had scored a mammoth of 362 runs and two centuries against Pakistan, which brought him to the brink of Team India selection. Sadly, in his absence, his ladylove, Priyanka met with a terrible road accident, where she died on the spot. Dhoni, who was completely unaware of what had happened missed out on this entire incident, and only came to know about it once he was back in India.

On his return to the country, Dhoni had learnt about his girlfriend’s tragic death and was totally broken and disturbed. This unforeseen incident had taken a toll on him, and it was reported that he took a long time to recover from the pain. He apparently took a long break off the field for his healing, and only made a comeback right before his grand Team India debut.
Interestingly, while the episode of Priyanka Jha was of utmost importance in Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s life, the latter seldom speaks about it in the media. His fans would never know about this unheard side of his personal life until it was depicted in his biopic. What’s more is the fact that Dhoni himself had agreed on the portrayal of Priyanka’s character in his biopic, and the filmmaker, Neeraj Pandey had sought permission for the same.
