Michael said that he and Kathleen had lied about the nature of their relationship for the past four decades.
Kathleen later wondered why people were making such a fuss about something that happened 40 years ago. For those unaware, after things ended between Kathleen and Michael, she went on to tie the knot with Jay Weiss.

Kathleen Turner met her ex-husband, Jay Weiss, a property developer, as Romancing the Stone was wrapping up production in 1983. This was right after her affair with Michael Douglas came to an end. Jay built his career in New York’s real estate scene, far away from the glamour world that Kathleen was used to. For those wondering, the duo met in a pretty practical way. In a 1986 interview with PEOPLE, the actress said:
“He found me an apartment, and to thank him I took him to lunch.”
Soon Kathleen and Jay’s lunch led to something more, and the duo developed a deep bond. Just a year later, Kathleen and Jay tied the knot on August 4, 1984. At the time, Kathleen Turner was quick to sing his praises, saying, “He's all the man I want – and all I can handle.”
Since Jay Weiss preferred to stay out of the spotlight, the actress loved that part of him too, seeing it as a strength rather than a limitation. She thought that in this way, he “keeps me in the real world.” Jay gave her a sense of much-needed normalcy after navigating her life in Hollywood.
In October 1997, Jay Weiss and Kathleen Turner welcomed their only child, a daughter named Rachel Ann Weiss, on October 14, 1987. For the unversed, Rachel’s arrival was a pretty special moment for the couple as Kathleen Turner had experienced a miscarriage in early 1986. Growing up, Rachel found her own creative path.
Reports state that she studied music at Hampshire College and released her debut album titled Dear Love back in 2012. Rachel has also appeared in the 1989 film Little Monsters alongside Ben Savage and Fred Savage.
Kathleen Turner and Jay Weiss had a happy family with their daughter. However, they shocked fans when they separated in 2005. Their divorce was finalized two years later, in 2007. During a candid interview with Larry King in 2008, Kathleen clarified that there was no bad blood between her and Jay. In fact, she said that they were terrific friends. In her words:
“My husband and I separated two years ago, and I guess the divorce became final in December. It’s odd—well, maybe it’s not odd—but we’re terrific friends. We have lunch together, and he’s still my best friend.”
In the same interview, Kathleen admitted that she missed physical intimacy following her divorce from Jay Weiss. She also said that in her life, she only ever had two lovers.

In his new memoir, One Helluva Ride, Michael Douglas said that the audience had already suspected that he and Kathleen Turner were in a relationship when they were filming Romancing the Stone. While they kept denying it for 40 years, in reality, Michael and Kathleen did fall in love. However, at the time of their relationship, Michael was still married to his wife.
Michael said that he and Kathleen had first found each other as friends, then as co-stars, and finally as lovers. He also added that he would often sneak into Kathleen’s hotel room after everyone was asleep. Reacting to Michael Douglas' revelation that they were secret lovers, Kathleen said:
"Good heavens, what a fuss about something 40 years ago! I love Michael, and I look forward to enjoying the book."
