Aaja Re Aaja Re Chanda, Ke Jab Tak Tu Naa Aayega, Sajana Ke Chehre Toh Dekhne, Yeh Man Tarsa Jayega… With Karwa Chauth just around the corner, the newbie brides are excited to observe their first fast post-marriage. It is that time of the year when women stay hungry for the entire day and wait with bated breath to see the moon and break their fast. Karwa Chauth is an important festival for every married woman, and our B-town and TV celebs are no different!
Karwa Chauth begins with the early morning sargi given to the bahu by her mother-in-law before sunrise post which they keep nirjala fast for the long life of their husbands. In the evening, the women who are observing the Karwa Chauth fast are dressed up in their traditional best and gather to hear the vrat katha. And with the moonrise, they break their fast by looking at the moon and then their husbands through a sieve. This being the sequence of the traditional ritual of the Karwa Chauth fast, don’t you want to know how your favourite TV couples will celebrate this special day? Here’s a list of celeb couples and how they are planning to celebrate Karwa Chauth 2019 together:
Television’s handsome hunk, Gautam Rode and his longtime girlfriend, Pankhuri Awasthy became each other’s forever on February 5, 2018, in a destination wedding. Breaking the tradition of only a woman keeping a fast for her husband, Gautam had also ‘given up food for love’ on his first Karwa Chauth post-marriage with Pankhuri. Sharing a picture, Gautam wrote:
“Love makes you do things you can never imagine... I have never fasted in life, but I’m glad that my first fast is for someone who has always stood by me. @pankhuri313 This is our first Karwa Chauth and I am giving up food for love.”
Pankhuri Awasthy had reposted the picture and had written:
"This is our first Karwa Chauth @rodegautam and you fasting for me just made it all the more special. I feel a gift like this not only makes your partner feel special but also emphasises that you believe in equality in marriage."
Pankhuri Awasthy will be in Varanasi on Karwa Chauth this year as she’s shooting for a film. Revealing her Karwa Chauth plan, she shared:
“I am shooting in Varanasi. Gautam will be driving down to be with me on Karwa Chauth and I am super happy about it. We are shooting on the ghats, and I plan to celebrate the festival on the sets.”
Gautam Rode added:
“Like last year, I am planning to fast along with her.”
Cupid had struck commitment-phobic Sharad Malhotra with its sharpest arrow and he began his ‘happily ever after’ journey with a Delhi-based costume designer, Ripci Bhatia. Married on April 20, 2019, Sharad and Ripci have been enjoying their marital bliss to the fullest and 2019 is going to be one of the many firsts in their lives. Sharad and Ripci will celebrate their first Karwa Chauth together post-marriage and revealing the plans of the same, the former shared:
“As an actor, I have been enacting Karwa Chauth-special scenes with my costars, but it’s a beautiful feeling to celebrate it in real life. It’s great to know that your loved one is going to make you feel special on this day. I love everything about this festival – getting up early to have sargi, phir chaand ko dekhna through a sieve and ending your partner’s fast by giving her water – it’s such a wonderful feeling. I will be heading to my home in Kolkata and plan to fast along with Ripci, though I haven’t told her that yet.”
Sapna Babul Ka...Bidaai fame, Parul Chauhan had added ‘Thhakar’ to her name after tying the knot with her ‘best-friend-cum-now-hubby’, Cherag Thhakar. Parul and Cherag have been making the most of their married life since they were pronounced Mr and Mrs on December 12, 2018. When asked about their first Karwa Chauth plans, Parul revealed that she had to convince Cherag to let her fast. Elaborating on the same, Parul remarked:
“I am really excited about my first Karwa Chauth, but my husband is worried about my health. He has been trying to brainwash me into not keeping the fast. I develop headaches, if I don’t drink tea in the morning. But thankfully, I have managed to convince him.”
Parul Chauhan (now Thhakar), who belongs to UP, is leaving no stone unturned to make her special day grand. She continued:
“The dress is sorted because in our family, we wear the wedding outfit on the first Karwa Chauth. But I am yet to finalise the most exciting part about the festival - the mehndi - I still haven’t zeroed in on a design.”
Prince Narula and Yuvika Chaudhary had embarked on their ‘happily ever after’ journey on October 12, 2018, and even today, the memories from their wedding rings fresh in our mind. How gorgeous and made-for-each-other they had looked on their special day! Giving goals since years now, Prince had kept fast with his wife, Yuvika on their first Karwa Chauth and she feels this year too, he will keep fast for her. Yuvika stated:
“This is ideally my first Karwa Chauth, as last year, the festival was just after our wedding. I am excited about all the rituals. I love the early-morning part of having sargi and I like the idea behind the festival. Prince pampers and supports me so much. Last year, he didn’t eat either, which I only came to know at the time of breaking the fast. And I have a feeling that he’s going to do the same this time, too. I will be dressing up in my traditional best, all decked up in jewellery. And this is one of the reasons I love the festival.”
In a 2018 interview, Prince Narula had shared what special he had planned for his wife, Yuvika Chaudhary on her first Karwa Chauth. Prince had also applied mehendi on Yuvika’s hands like a doting husband. He had said:
"I feel it is crucial for me to contribute in some way for my wife's first Karwa Chauth fast. This Karwa Chauth I will make sure that Yuvika has a healthy and nutritious sargi. I will be adding her favourite Oats to pheni. Sargi with a healthy fistful of the oats will ensure sustained energy to get her through her first Karwa Chauth fast."
The Sajan Ji Ghar Aaye moment had arrived for Tujhse Hai Raabta actress, Sheena Bajaj when her fiancé, Bharatvarsh actor, Rohit Purohit had come with Band Baaja Baaraat to take his dulhaniya on January 22, 2019. Karwa Chauth 2019 being the first one for the newly-married couple, Sheena revealed her plans for the same and shared:
“Since childhood, I have been crazy about Karwa Chauth, so much so that I would keep it every year with my mom, but on a liquid diet. However, this time, I am going to be off liquid diet. Since I am married in a Marwari family, the celebrations are going to be grand. And I am really excited about my dress. I can’t wear my wedding dress as it was really heavy. I am yet to decide whether I will be wearing a suit or a sari, but it’s going to be dark red.”
In December 2017, when the TV fanatics were busy drooling over the wedding pictures of Smriti Khanna and Gautam Gupta, Bharti Singh and Haarsh Limbachiyaa, Aashka Goradia and Brent Goble, Ishita Dutta and Vatsal Sheth’s secret union had come as a surprise for everyone! On November 28, 2017, Ishita and Vatsal had tied the knot at the ISKCON temple, Juhu, Mumbai. Karwa Chauth 2019 will be the second one for Ishita and revealing plans for the same, she remarked:
“In our Bengali household, it’s not that big, but I just love to observe the fast for Vatsal. I like the idea behind the festival. I haven’t been keeping well. I just hope to recover soon. I will be shooting on the day, so we have planned a lovely evening together. Also, my show will have a Karwa Chauth-special episode and I’m excited to be a part of the onscreen celebrations, too.”
Is Vatsal also going to fast? Ishita replied:
“I’ll make sure that Vatsal fasts for me at least once in this lifetime. His way of showing love is beyond fasting and he pampers me on this day with his own cute ways. Also, I have no idea if he has planned any surprise for me.”
Playback singer, Apeksha Dandekar had tied the knot with Nimki Mukhiya star, Abhishek Sharma on February 9, 2019. This Karwa Chauth being a special one for Apeksha, she is really excited to keep the fast for her husband. Expressing her excitement, Apeksha shared:
“We got married in February and this is going to be my first Karwa Chauth. I am getting special food items made for the festival. It feels nice to be able to continue the tradition and learn another cultural aspect through it. Other than that, I have mostly seen Karwa Chauth in movies, and I am really excited about celebrating it in reality for Abhishek.”
Revealing that he too will keep the fast for his wife, Apeksha, Abhishek continued:
“I’m equally excited about the festival. If I’m not shooting, I will spend the entire day with her, else would request my production team to let me leave early. I have grown up seeing my mom fasting for my dad and it makes me feel really special that someone will be doing it for me as well. These little things make your relationship stronger and bring you closer. Aur main Apeksha ka poora-poora saath dunga and will fast with her.”
