Bollywood actress, Kajol made her acting debut at the age of 17 with the film, Bekhudi, in 1992. However, it was her 1993 film, Baazigar, alongside Shah Rukh Khan that made her a star overnight, and since then there has been no looking back for her. Kajol tied the knot with actor, Ajay Devgn, when she was at the peak of her career. The couple has been married for over 24 years now and is growing stronger than ever.
In a candid conversation with Humans of Bombay, Kajol recalled the time when she first met Ajay Devgn on a film set and shared that they were dating other people back then. However, as destiny had different plans, the duo parted ways with their respective partners. Slowly love blossomed between them and their love story started. Talking about the same, Kajol said:
“I was going out with somebody, I think he was going out with somebody at that point of time. And we did a film together, and we kind of became friends from there. We just started talking, became friends, then eventually I broke up, he broke up, and then we became a little more than friends.”

Spilling the beans about her successful marriage with actor, Ajay Devgn, Kajol shared that one has to work on their marriage every single day to make it work. The Baazigar actress added that one needs to reinvent themselves and change their perspective as people grow with time. Sharing how she and Ajay have evolved over the years, Kajol added:
“It’s got to do with wanting to work on it every day and I think that is something that any married couple will tell you that it is work, it is a hell of a lot of work, it is not easy. You have to reinvent yourself and you have to look at it differently every day. There are new things that you have to accept about each other and learn. People grow, and people change so I am very different from what I was at 21-22. He is very different from what he was at 30. And so, we still find each other a little interesting, I think that’s the biggest thing I can say about us right now.”
In the interaction, Kajol also opened up about the body shaming that she was subjected to when she joined the film industry. Recalling how she was judged for her complexion, Kajol shared that she was called dark, fat and someone who wears specs all the time. However, the actress was not concerned about it as she knew that she was smarter and better than the people who were making negative comments about her. In her words:
“‘She is dark, she is fat and she wears specs all the time.’ These were some of the judgments that were passed when I first started working in the industry. I couldn’t care less. I knew I was smart, cool and better than everyone out there who had any negatives to say about me. So, I kept continuing to be myself and never let it show. Sooner or later, when they couldn’t pull me down, the world simply embraced me for who I was - Kajol.”
The actress went on to confess that she struggled with her own skin and began to believe that she is not beautiful. However, it was only when she was about 32-33 that she started to look in the mirror and embrace her beauty. Adding that she continued to be herself, Kajol stated:
"It took me a very, very long time to reach there. And like I said, you fake it, till you believe it and eventually you will make it."
For the unversed, Kajol and Ajay Devgn are blessed with two children, a daughter, Nysa, and a son, Yug.
