Hrithik Roshan, often referred to as the Greek God of Bollywood, has proved his mettle in acting with his versatile roles. Bollywood was gifted with one of the rarest gems in the year 2000 when Hrithik had made his debut with his father’s directorial film, Kaho Naa Pyaar Hai. Since then, there was no looking back for the handsome actor.
Like every son, Hrithik shares a warm rapport with his dad, Rakesh Roshan and has always been vocal about his love for him. When Hrithik's debut film, Kaho Naa Pyaar Hai had broken all the box-office records with his success, the Roshan family's financial condition brightened too. Everything was working out in their favour until one evening, Rakesh Roshan was shot outside his office by some unknown assailants.
The tragic incident had broken Hrithik completely, who then planned to quit acting and leave the film industry. During 2001 Filmfare Awards, the handsome actor had recalled the incident and had got emotional. Talking about the incident, Hrithik had said:
"As you all know, in the past few weeks my family has been through a lot. We have witnessed joy, happiness, success, fear, sadness over the last few days. My father who believes in doing good work was recently attacked by unknown assailants."
He had further stated how he had lost faith in goodness after the attack and had decided to leave the industry. Recalling what had made him change his mind, the handsome actor had recalled:
"On that day, I just couldn't help but feel, I was losing faith in hard work and goodness in the world. Basically, nothing made sense and I wanted to quit even before things begun for me. But something changed all that. Something changed what I thought. On that day in the hospital when you came and I saw your faces and in your your own special way you made me feel that I was not alone, that I'll never be alone."
In an interview with renowned American-British comedian, Ruby Wax, Hrithik had talked in detail about the attack on his father, Rakesh Roshan. The doting son had stated that his daddy, Rakesh was outside his Santa Cruz office in January 2000. Suddenly some assailants had come and fired six rounds at his father's direction, from which two bullets had hit Rakesh.
When Ruby Wax had asked Hrithik Roshan the reason behind such a tragic and massive incident, the actor had revealed that after the success of his debut film, Kaho Naa Pyaar Hai, they had earned a lot of money, and that's when the mafia had entered into the frame. He had said:
"My father was in a lot of debt because we had borrowed a lot of money to make the film. The film struck big time--it was the biggest hit in the past five-six years. The one that made me a star (Kaho Naa Pyaar Hai). Just in the first week, this happened. They knew my father has hit big time, he is successful, money is going to come in. So they wanted money, we didn't pay. They shot him. Point blank."
In 2020, sharpshooter, Sunil V Gaikwad, who had shot Rakesh Roshan back in 2000, was arrested by police and was sent to jail for 11 murder cases and 7 attempts to murder cases.
