Saif Ali Khan and Amrita Singh were once the most sought-after celebrity couple of the glamour world. She was a quintessential Punjaban and he was the shy Nawab of Pataudi, she was already an established actress and he was struggling to have a foothold in the industry. And even after being completely opposite to each other, they found each other.

Saif Ali Khan and Amrita Singh had met on the sets of Rahul Rawail’s film, and the former was so smitten by his co-star that he decided to ask her out for dinner a couple of days later. On their first dinner date, Saif and Amrita had a good time, where they had discussed everything and ended the night with a kiss. It was the beginning of their beautiful love story and in 1991, Saif and Amrita had tied the knot.

In a throwback interview with a leading magazine, Amrita had stated that she did not want to tie down Saif by having children. When Amrita was asked whether running a house is a full-time job? She had replied by stating that she doesn't have to bother as she has a very efficient staff. Talking about her plans to have kids with Saif, Amrita had added:

"If I have children, it would be different but Saif and I aren't planning any for a few more years. I don't want to tie him down so soon. He's young and his career's just beginning."

Further, when Amrita was given the credit for having a positive influence on Saif and making him a responsible man, the Waaris actress had retorted that Saif was never irresponsible but was misunderstood because of the western influence on him. In her words, "His producers misunderstood his laidback style for disinterest."

In 1995, Saif and Amrita had hopped on to parenthood for the first time and had welcomed a baby girl, whom they have named, Sara Ali Khan. In 2001, they had become parents for the second time with the arrival of their baby boy, Ibrahim Ali Khan. Unfortunately, after 13 years of marital bliss, in 2004, Saif and Amrita had decided to part ways.

In a 2005 interview with the Telegraph, Saif had revealed the alimony he had paid to his ex-wife, Amrita Singh. He was quoted as saying:

"I'm supposed to give Amrita Rs 5 crore, of which I've already given her approximately Rs 2.5 crore. Also, I'm paying Rs 1 lakh per month until my son becomes 18. I'm not Shah Rukh Khan. I don't have that kind of money. I've promised her I'll pay up the rest of the money, and I will, even if I've to slog till I drop dead."

Over the years, Saif Ali Khan and Amrita Singh have moved on in their respective lives. Saif had married Kareena Kapoor in 2012, and the couple has two kids, Taimur Ali Khan and Jehangir Ali Khan. Amrita is happily raising her and Saif’s children, Sara Ali Khan and Ibrahim Ali Khan. And everyone has happily come to terms with the ‘modern’ relationships of the family and share a warm camaraderie with one another.
